I'm a total newbie when it comes to cooling rite now... i don't understand a thing except the dimensions rite now...

I want to learn how to keep a system cool and what are good equipments and devices for cooling... im wondering where can i learn all about fans... and what are some of the best and the most silent cooling fans / systems... like i said... im new to these cooling things... and i'd like to learn more about cooling and cases... and why are some cases so darn expensive... what makes them that expensive....

Can anyone direct me to a URL so i can read about these things.... I would appreciate it....

I'd like to buy a new case make my own custom case like some of you do... but i only know how to buy fans and install them... and i don't understand any of the description on the fans when u buy it.... i just go buy the size rite now...

So can someone give me a URL... or email at liguid83@swirve.com. Thanks

Quick stuff...

CFM = Cubic Feet Per minute. It is the amount of air the fan moves. More = better.
DBA = Decibel rating. How loud a fan is. Every 3 DB is 2x the noise. Less = better
RPM = Revolutions per minute. How fast a fan spins. More usually = louder. This is not really important. the first 2 are.

these are the major sizes of fans.

40mm = small heatsinks
60mm = most heatsinks
80mm = 90% of case fans and large heatsinks
92mm = wierd case fan size
120mm = big ass case fans. Usually have to have a hole cut for them.

the mm stands for millimeter and is the length of the fan across one side.

fans that exaust though a expansion card slot can not be reversed.

any specific questions?

I'll offer another "easy" link for you. It is Google. If you haven't used it already, do so. Just ask a basic question and you will get more answers than you have time to read. For example, if you put "Computer Cooling Tips" in the search box you will get at least "Results 1 - 10 of about 64,500". That's more than you could read in any reasonable amount of time. Yes, some AT folks may be able to point you to a few URL's that will speed up the process, but heck, that is what discovery is all about. Do the search and have some fun reading all about it. Many folks here did exactly that.
