New to CD/RW drives..Couple of Questions

I just picked up the HP 9110i drive. It is 8X4X32 and I am trying to learn how to use it. Can someone tell me what CloneCD is? Can I copy my games (Newer one's i.e. Unreal T, Quake 3,) and will they work? Or do I need to use a "special" software program to do game copies. Can I copy Data CD's such as Office, Norton and have them work? So, I don't get flamed I am looking at making backup's to my CD's. Can you copy Playstation or Nintendo? I realize that I have a lot of quesitons but any help or pointing me to where I can research these issues will be really appreciated. The drive came with HP CD creation software and there is reference on my Software to Adaptech, and Direct CD. I don't know what they mean but I will find out. Finally, what speed is a reliable one to use when making copies?

Hi Sandan,I just bought the same drive 4 days ago & have been doing a crash course on burning myself.Clonecd is a nice little program that I used with that copies raw data I use it when the Adaptec program has trouble with recording something.
With Cd Creater I was able to back up my Win98 & ME disk no problem & several game back ups as well. The only problem I had was copying music files & 1 game, they are mp3's & it wont convert them to "wave" for recording. Had to use Nero but that's a whole nother thread.

Clone cd is much easier to use but I only have the demo & it records at 2x speed defeating the purpose of my 8x burner. When I burn with Clone cd it saves the image on my drive but with Adaptecs software it erases it another plus for Clone cd.So far I've used 8x speed for all recordings. Check out my thread in "Periphials" for more help on this same subject.

Go to cdmediaworld.com for lots of good info on burning.

Toro🙂

Adaptec Easy CD creator is probably the weakest program to copy protected CDs.
Nero and CDRwin are much better.
Clonecd is the best but it does not work with all CD burners.
I heard blind read/blind write are cool too but never used them.

Yes, you can use Clonecd to make backup copies of your legally bought CDs 🙂
Some copy protection schemes are easily defeated by CloneCD, others are not. Unreal Tournament can be copied without any problem.

There is a nice address for any CloneCD information, but because I'm new on this forum, I'd like the moderator to tell me if I can post it or not (I don't want to be banned from the site because I gave the address of an "underground" site.)

MODERATOR, CAN I GIVE THE ADDRESS OF THE CLONECD UNDERGROUND SITE WITHOUT BEING BANNED FROM THE SITE ???

The address is www. ... to be continued

Thanks for the info guys. Clone CD is available for a free download on a legal site. I guess it is freeware. Does anyone know if Playstation or Nintendo CD's can be copied?

CloneCD is not freeware. If you have a legit evaluation version, it will limit you to slow 2X burning. There are underground sites (which I am not condoning 🙂 that you could get the registration serial from.

It is a great program, and the guy that designed it goes to great lengths to protect it from being stolen. (rightfully so) It is a great burning program that should be paid for IMO.
