new to ATI...driver question

Ok, for years I have always bought nVidia based cards and their drivers have always been great. Each new driver release we welcomed with little to no hesitation. However, I have heard that ATI's drivers can be shaky. But the bang for the buck of the ati cards meant that when my GF4ti4200 died I didnt have a choice but to go with an ATI. So what drivers should I be using? I need some suggestions and direction.
