They should have fined the five minority candidates for not showing up for the requested interview. This is BS charade. The Lions sent out requests to minorities to be interviewed, the candidates decided not to interview. The Lions did their part, end of story. They wanted Mariucci from the start and everyone knew it. If teams are forced to interview in this manner, then those that are requested to interview should be forced to go.

I hate this whole thing. It's shjtty. The Lions (Millen) are getting screwed. What are they going to do, force a minority to interview with them? They want them to call 10 minorities?20??? And what will that solve?? So they pull some minority coach from high school, fly him to detroit, ask him a few questions, then leave the interview to go to a press conference announcing the hiring of Mooch and save 200 grand?? It's so stupid. You know why Mooch was hired? Because he was the best coach out there. The Lions would never have fired "We'll take the wind" Marty if Mooch wasn't available.

If the players care so much about the race of their coach, then they should boycott certain teams that they think have racist front offices. The players shouldn't have to rely on the league to put some quota on the hiring processes. Good Lord what is this society coming to?

Any notion that a team would put the race of their coach ahead of winning a Super Bowl on their list of goals for a season is absolutely absurd. :|

Millen can bite it, he deserved the fine. He setup interviews but said upfront the job was already someone else's. What a sh!thead, complete disregard for a respectable policy.

As usual, with issues I don't feel that strongly about, I can see both sides of this one. Frankly the picture of a violent sports league where the players are predominately minorities but none of the people in positions of power are is pretty disturbing when you think about it, no matter what the compensation might be. But what's the big deal it's just a football team that needs a coach.

There is only one way to "see" this issue. If a coach wants a "chance" he can move up the ranks (high school...college...then perhaps NFL) like a lot of coaches have done (white coaches too!). I wonder if a white coach has ever been turned down for an interview and if the team was fined for it.
