I have stock 16 inch wheels with quattro. I live in upstate NY so there is a decent amount of snow. I guess my question is what's the difference between a true performance and all season tire. I will not be using snow tires in the winter. My car is not chipped and I don't drive it that hard...

I heard some good things about the Traction T/A's... I may go for those or the Goodyear ComforTreds..... I guess I should worry that they're not true 'performance' tires.... I'm sure I wont have problems cornering. My local dealer doesnt' have Toyo's, but thanks for the advice.

Ha.. I will not be 'pinning myself against the door', so solid all terrain's seem to be good for anything but that.

I just put a set of Michelin Pilot Sports on my wife's Maxima 225/50WR-17. They are simply the best tire for that car IMO. Cost me close to a grand for a set of 4 though.
Why don't you like the Michelins?

lower end michelin tires are utter ass. I've had them, and my friend has them on his 98 Maxima... HORRIBLE tires! MXV4 or something? they are not good in any weather.
but good tires like the Pilots are great.

Yeah, we had lower end Bridgestones on the Maxima when we bought it new in 2003. Those tires suck horribly, especially in the rain.
I'm a firm believer in not cutting costs when it comes to tires. Get the best tire you can.

My car came with Michelins and I haven't been impressed.... If they didn't give me any problems I'm guessing a good all season/touring BF or Goodyear will be fine.
Reviews on the Assurance ComforTred were good all around except for 1 thing... some people have been complaining about lower gas mileage...never heard of that before.. is that possible?

Probably the RE92's, yep, they are crap tires.
I have Bridgestones now, but they are Potenza RE730's.. one of the best tires I've ever driven on. My next tires are Yokohama Parada Spec-2's... hopefully I like them as much as I've liked these!
