New Thunderbird 900Mhz not working

I just received a new Thunderbird 900Mhz CPU + ASUS A7V motherboard. They forgot to include the fan and heatsink in the package. I couldn't resist, so I installed the whole think without the fan/heatsink. When I turned it on, the screen showing the GeForce video card appeared but it stoped there and nothing happened. While doing some modifications on the dip switches I turned the system on/off about five times but never got it to boot past the video card screen. Is this because I don't have a fan conencted to the CPU or did I damage the CPU(which doesnt make sense otherwise it wouldn't boot at all)?

Also there were no beeps from the speaker so I guess that the RAM is OK.

that was silly. maybe you can return it? you should never run a CPU with no HS/F thats a no no.

mmm amd cpus are running so hot these days that running one without hs and fan even for a few secs will burn it.

Hmmmmm.....sounds like you now have a crispy chip. (good for keychain)

Tbirds and Durons will overheat and burn out within seconds without a heatsink installed.

I believe it's 8.....seconds, on average, that a T-Bird lasts without a heatsink/fan....
