I RECENTLY MADE MY FIRST SYS. 800MHZ AMD- FIC AZ11- 128 MB 133- 15 GIG MAXTOR. IT WORKED BEAUTIFULLY AND FLAWLESSLY UNTIL:
I INSTALLED A BRAND NEW ETHERNET CARD TO CONNECT TO MY ISP (CABLE), I HAVE BEEN HAVING ALL KINDS OF TROUBLE WITH THIS SYSTEM.
I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO GET A CORRECT IP ADDRESS, I TRIED CHANGING THE CARD FROM ONE PCI SLOT TO THE NEXT, INSTALLING, AN RE-INSTALLING THIS CARDS DRIVERS, I DO GET A GREEN LIGHT WHEN I CONNECT TO THE CABLE MODEM, HOWEVER; NOT EVEN THE TECH SUPPORT HAS BEEN ABLE TO FIGURE OUT WHY I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO "CONNECT".
I BELIEVE THAT SOMETHING IN MY SETTINGS IS NOT RIGHT.
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

remove the card and reboot.go into folder options and select show all files.go to c:windows/inf/other,delete any inf file in regards to the nic.go into device manager
and see if anything is under network adapters-there should not be anything there.
unplug power to cable modem.install card and driver.do not plug any thing in yet.
right click network neig.double click on tcp/ip.go to dns tab-disable dns.go to
ip tab and select obtain ip automatically.click o.k will probably ask for disk.reboot.
go to dos prompt and type ipconfig /all.call cable co. and tell them to provision
your new card, they will need the mac address.plug cat 5 into nic.plug cable modem back in.
look at the cable modem and make sure you get a block sync.at the run box type winipcfg.
click release all then renew all.it should get ip,subnet, default gateway etc.if it does you are all set.good luck.

Remember that if you had another computer hooked up to the cable modem before, the cable service providor will probably have to get the new MAC from the new NIC. You would get a connection from the NIC to the Modem, but the Cable Service Provider would not pass any traffic because they don't recognize your MAC address.

I changed and it took them two months to get it straight. I eventually had someone come to my house who I explained it to in person, then it was fixed in a few minutes.

Well, that's good to know that the capslock isn't stuck, now if you'd just realize that it's fscking annoying and impolite and quit using them. :)
