I learned a long time ago that driving is nothing but a big penis contest. It's never that anyone is late, or that they are in a hurry. It's all about who's nut sack is on top of who's and who gets to be on top or in front.

People run stop signs or no arrow turns like it's the end of the world when there is but one car to "beat", but will stop even if just a CA stop, if there is nobody. People will floor it at a light if they think they have a better car, or ride your ass and try to out accelerate you in the ending lane of a merge, but then go 10 under once they are in front of you, but won't let you pass unless you can over power them and leave them no chance.

People as a whole are dicks on the road and turn an evening drive home from work into some machismo alpha dominance superiority contest. I've given up and decided that if I'm going to be forced into a damn penis contest every time I drive somewhere, I'm going to make sure I'm packing a 36 foot long screaming penis with steel hooks in the tip. I've found that few people want to whip it out and compare penis sizes on the road anymore.

Mine will roll maybe a few inches, then stops. Do you have a gen 1 DSG?

No, its an 08. The most i've ever let it roll is like 5-6" inches, though it definitely feels like its going to roll more, not a big deal down here in FL.

Just another unique thing about my car that shouldnt be different.

Actually.....my 08 GTI rolled more than my TDI, perhaps they changed the programming for TDI models or something.

This.

I'm driving my wife to the train station this morning at 7am and Cpt. Douche in a Volvo xc90 just has to pass me. It's a 40Mph road with two lanes each way and I'm doing 39. I can see he's racing me in his mind, so I edge up my speed subtley, and he adds 2-3 to pass, except we come up to a roundabout (traffic circle to you) and I sail around without so much as a dab of brake and he understeers all over the three lanes. Well done. Well done indeed Mr Vovlo.

Anyone have clowns in your area using parking sensors to get right up on someone's bumper at a red light?

Good luck pulling this one day on a manual on a hill.

Noticing it lately with some of the kids here in high end cars at 16.

There are no hills in Florida.

You didn't powerslide around the roundabout, middle finger out the window, screaming about something related to his taint? :awe:

Thats OK. You will get the last laugh as they replace their transmission (resisted using the word 'tranny' here). ;)

In this same vein, any sort of racing in a xc90 is just rediculous anyway.

Usually if I'm on a hill and I see someone coming up who looks like they're going to stop very close to me, I'll start rolling backwards intentionally before they even get close. That's usually enough to wake them up and get them to leave room. I only need 1-2 inches on the steeper hills, but they don't need to know that. ;)

It's been around since the 30's actually...never really used as much until recently.

I don't know the exact figures but someone said recently only 1% of 1% of all cars today are sold as manuals.

It's actually 6%-9% in the USA. Also, my car is an '08 and doesn't have that roll-back braking thing.

In my previous car (Mazda6 MT) someone stopped literally on my bumper as I was sitting stopped, on a steep hill. Of course, it was winter and the roads were slick/icy. I just sat there as the light turned green until they backed-off. All it took was a little release of the brake to move back a little and they finally got the hint. No hill-assist on that car. Neither of my two current cars have a hill-assist either.

The interesting thing is that two of our automatic vehicles have hill assist, but my manual car doesn't!

The HSA system is designed to assist the driver when
starting a vehicle from a stop on a hill. HSA will maintain
the level of brake pressure the driver applied for a short
period of time after the driver takes their foot off of the
brake pedal. If the driver does not apply the throttle
during this short period of time, the system will release
brake pressure and the vehicle will roll down the hill. The
system will release brake pressure in proportion to
amount of throttle applied as the vehicle starts to move in
the intended direction of travel.
HSA Activation Criteria
The following criteria must be met in order for HSA to
activate:
² Vehicle must be stopped.
² Vehicle must be on a 8% grade or greater hill.
² Gear selection matches vehicle uphill direction (i.e.,
vehicle facing uphill is in forward gear; vehicle backing
uphill is in R (Reverse) gear).

HSAwill work in R (Reverse) and all forward gears when
the activation criteria have been met. The system will not
activate if the vehicle is placed in N (Neutral) or P (Park).

Towing with HSA
HSA will provide assistance when starting on a grade
when pulling a trailer.

HSA Off
If you wish to turn off the HSA system, it can be done
using the Customer Programmable Features

Throw it in reverse to flick the backup lights on lol. That will get a O.O look on their face.

It is hill assist because if the car is put in neutral on a hill, it doesn't move.

Interesting. Didn't know that.

Still seems very odd that anyone would put that on a torque converter automatic given that the cars really don't need it. In my experience at least 80% of situations on a hill the basic creep will handle holding the car still. Even on very steep hills the backwards roll happens so slowly that a driver would need to be laughably incompetent for an automatic to roll back more than a couple inches.

Gotta love how new cars are largely built for people who shouldn't be driving.

That's how it works. You can be going 90 in a 55 with nobody else on the road, and some asshat will floor it to catch up to you so they can do 91. If you weren't there, he would be maintaining 65.
