People still get tattoos?

More specifically, people feel the need to show off tattoos? I have no problem with tattoos and have had many for over a dozen years, but I hate when people specifically show them off... I just don't get it.

As a side note, it doesn't hurt THAT bad in that area. Its more sensitive, sure. But "hurt"? Nah...

Like I said, my whole arm fell asleep so I didn't really feel much at all. Just sharing it because I was excited. In real life I don't make much of an effort to show any off. I'm certainly not going to start wearing muscle shirts because of this.

Lame and it will be even more lame in 30 years if you don't have the guns you have now.

*shrug* My arms feel little as it is, so that wasn't what I was trying to accomplish.

It isn't really crooked, my elbow was just a bit hyper-extended in the pic. It's really meant to look best with my arm hanging down.

Anyways, my whole arm fell asleep because of the position I was laying in so the pain was really not bad. My bicep felt cramped though towards the end and started twitching when he hit some nerves.

Now comes the crappy healing process, and this of course is in a high use spot. Bring on the fun.

Thats what I was thinking about when I got my tattoo. Ended up with a celtic design, since Old dudes with faded celtic tats look pretty badass.

Is that going to limit you to long sleeved uniforms?

For the Army? That's all you wear anyways. I knew people with tattoos on their neck/hands that were in.

For any future job, I don't really see it being an issue though.

when i had one of my bands done, that area was pretty much pain free. i could feel a tingly sensation in my lower back tho, was the weirdest thing ive ever encountered. the artist said he had others say they felt it in different areas, but never that far removed from the actual tattoo.

i dont really show mine off, and most people dont even know i have them unless they see me swimming or at my house.

Looks well done 🙂

I've never been a big fan of block text tats though, but to me, it isn't the concept of the block text but rather the choice of words that make or break it. Tattoos in my opinion have always been an extremely lame concept unless it means something deeply personal to the individual wearing it, and not just "oh i really liked this drawing when I was flipping through the art book".

So in the end, figuring what little one on an internet board can know about another member, that phrase is probably a great fit for you.

I have one tattoo on my back right shoulder, so nobody sees it except whenever my shirt is off, so really only on hot days and when swimming. I don't feel a need to make it always visible, but that wasn't the intention either - felt it was a good place for the design and for a first tattoo. Ease into it.
Wanna get something on my upper arm or chest in the future, but have no idea what design. It has to be something I will believe in forever. Will most likely get my family crest, whenever I can actually find it and get an official family tree made up. Ben Franklin is supposed to be an uncle, with my lineage tracing back to one of his brothers. That's always meant a great deal to me.
And any other tat, unlike my first tat (though extremely personal, was a readily available one), I want to have custom drawn. Just a matter of affording them, and determining what imagery would fit my beliefs that I would want to wear on my skin.

Oh and as far as the short-sleeve dress uniforms, I know for sure you can still wear them. How little they are ever worn basically means it won't be an issue anyhow, but I knew a 1SG with full sleeve art and still wore the Class B uniform with short sleeves. And generally, the length of the sleeves on the short sleeve would probably cover that up anyhow, at least a majority of the text.

Summary:

I like how it looks, but I'm not a huge fan of block text tattoos. Tattoos are lame anyway without meaning. I do have a tattoo on the back of my right shoulder, but it's invisible in most circumstances. I like it like this because it's not too obtrusive. In the future I want to get something on my upper arm or chest. Something with intense personal meaning, like my family crest. (Also, Ben Franklin is my late uncle.)

BTW, you can still wear short-sleeve dress uniforms.

This seems to be how all AT feels, may as well just post somewhere else

I only have 5, planning to get more soon, but running out of space where I can enjoy them. I don't want any where I can't see them without any help (ie, my back)

Agreed, we need to get an official show off your tat thread to piss them off.

Ha. Don't got summing up my posts dammit! 😛
Although I'm actually genuinely intrigued that you went through that trouble.
😀

As was said in another thread - if I don't have the highest text/post ratio I'd be shocked. 😉
