new t-bird 1200 too hot ?

hey everyone, a friend has a new 1.2ghz t-bird on an MSI mobo. it is reading (after running a while) 74c in the bios ("pc health&quot😉. i suggested some case fans for more circulation, so is this way too hot? how hot is too hot? any other suggestions? thanks so much.

oh yeah, the hsf is a new wbk38 (globalwin).

hey amish, he has no case cooling other than the p/s fan and the global win, so ambient temp is feeling quite warm. the case is of the screwless type, so theres not a heck of alot of room, but i did suggest putting in a 80mm fan (if there is a spot).

Maybe your friend has the same setup and the same problem as I do.... ? I have the K7 master. Look for my results in this thread, quite amazing...

Be sure to check the voltage for default. The K7 master's voltage is higher than it says in BIOS.

try this for windows

I still have this problem in BIOS. Temps can soar to 60c in BIOS at default voltage depending on your HSF. You have to let your PC cool down after making changes in BIOS. Then boot it up. Or, make your BIOS setting quikly and restart as fast as possible.

I'm stuck with this MB for the time being.

Definitely put an 80mm fan in there. There is almost ALWAYS a spot at the front base of the case, under the drives. That would help tremendously.

thanks amish and noid! hey noid doesnt win2k send instructions to the cpu during idle to cool it down already? or would he still need a program like the one in the link you sent? let me know and thanks again.

I would suggest putting a thermal coolant on the actual cpu, ie Arctic Silver or such. I found that this knocked about 7 degrees off my core temp.

Sorry ... I have W2K pro SP2... I applied that tweak to it.

I added edit to that post.

holy moly 74c? that seems very hot....is the system running stable? that seems VERY high of a temp to me. 40's and 50's would be a good temp to have it at. definitely add some case fans, and if you need any links to buy them online, pm me.

the system seems very stable, i have two fans for him to put in, provided there is space. the air NEEDS to get moving in there, right now it is trapped and creating a very warm evironment, even the case is feeling warm! i think that if we just get some circulation in there it will make a huge difference.
