OK I am ordering a new system for my boss. It will be used for audio mixing, cd burning, some video editing, and day to day stuff.

Here are the specs. Thoughts? No overclocking by the way.

CPU: Operton 170
Ram: 2 x 1gb OCZ Platinum
MOBO: Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe
Vid Card: EVGA 6600gt
Case: Antec P180
PSU: Antec Truepower 2 550w
DVD Drives: 2 x NEC 3550
HDD: 74gb raptor

Are these good choices. I didnt go with a DFI mobo becuase he wont be overclocking.

if you arent overclocking, why did you get an opteron 170, when it is the same as an X2 3800+ except less money. the only advantage to the opty is overclocking. also, why did you get overclocking ram? otherwise, its fine.

wait, you already ordered this? what is the point of posting it then?

They are not even close to the same. The Opteron 170 can handle voltage variation a lot more and has 1MB L2 cache per core.

And if you already ordered it then indeed, what was the point of posting this?

Ahh good, lets save you some headaches

CPU: Operton 170

Ram: No overclocking and 2x1GB; much better for the money

MOBO: Get the A8N32-SLI ($200) or don't get Asus at all. And why an SLI board? $95 and better

Vid Card: EVGA 6600gt

Case: Antec P180. This is a personal preference but whatever. I'd just get a $51 SLK3000B and spend the saved money on other better components.

PSU: Antec Truepower 2 550w. No, just say no to the McDonalds PSUs. Sure it might be all deluxe like a BigMac but its still McDonalds. High quality 430w is all he will need, and will last an upgrade cycle or two.

DVD Drives: 2 x NEC 3550. Why two burners? If he wants to copy on the fly get a DVD-ROM. Anyways this is a better burner.

HDD: 74gb raptor. If he does video editing this is the stupidest idea ever. 74GB will dissappear faster than a fart in the wind. better idea
