I'm looking to build a new system, but can't decide between these two...

P4 2.4ghz @533 FSB
512MB PC2100 DDR-SDRAM
ASUS P4B533 Motherboard
40 GB Western Digital Caviar Ultra-100 7200RPM

or a...

P4 2.4ghz @533 FSB
512MB PC2700 DDR-SDRAM
ASUS P4S533 Motherboard
40 GB Maxtor Diamond Max Plus Ultra-133 7200RPM

Are the Intel Chipsets better than the SIS chipsets? Will ULTRA-133 as appose to Ultra-100 make a significant difference? Will PC2100 be that different from PC2700? Thanks.

The choice is simple:

P4 1.8A @ 2.5 (557MHz FSB) (recent 1.8As from newegg will do that on default voltage, if not more)
512MB Corsair XMS PC2700C2 @ DDR371
Asus P4B533-V
80GB Western Digital Caviar "Second Edition" 8MB Cache 7200RPM Ultra-100
:D

Now, for your questions:

Intel vs. SiS: Wars have been fought and lives lost in the battle between these two forces and their loyal followers. The followers of the Mighty Empire say their chipsets are more stable and trouble free while the Rebel Alliance claims their chipsets are nearly as good at half the cost. While my portable computational device has a chipset from the Rebel Alliance, I prefer Empire chipsets for my desktop systems and recently chose the P4B533-V based on the Empire's chipset.

Ultra-133 vs. Ultra-100: Intelligence reports seem to indicate that there is no value in using Ultra-133.

PC2100 vs. PC2700: In laboratory tests, mice that were fed PC2700 memory sticks got lost in the maze 10% faster than mice that were fed PC2100 memory sticks.

Now my take!!!

ATA133...Big marketing scam!!! Until HDD's can actually transfer at above ata66 standards (most new ones are only 40-45mb/s) other then burst transfer rates it wont be noticeable...

Secondly SIS chipset are goo especially if you want all the features and not want to oc much....Starting with 133fsb with the 2.53ghz doesn't leave much room with a sis chipset that offers no agp/pci lock and in most reviews cannot hit as high fsb stabily as many og the intel chipsets....

SIS chipset??? get a 2.0zghz chip...oc to 133 which will revert to 1/4 pci divider and then get corsair pc3200 and set ratio to 4:6 and run 400mhz ddr....

Otherwise....pretty much everything else get an Intel chipset and any of the B chips are good...

Screw this notion of pc2700..rember a Pc2700 system is only equal to a pc800 rdram system on an i850 platform...It is behind the pc800 on i850e platform and further behind an rdram pc1066 system on i850e platform...If you can get 400-440mhz ddr you will be equal to orjust behind (neglible numbers) behind the pc1066 system....

P4's are bandwidth hungry so don't even consider neutering it with pc2100...

p4 with 400mhz fsb has a theorectical bandwidth capable of 3.2gb/s...pc2100 will give max 2.1gb/s...far behind but then figure a 533fsb system will have 4.2gb/s of bandwidth and now you are only half of what it can produce with pc2100...Pc3200 or pc3500 with 433mhz ddr can get you closer to fulfilling the p4's need.
