Hi, I'm thinking of building the following system, anyone see any potential problems/incompatibilities?

ABIT KT7A Mobo
Athlon Thunderbird 1Ghz
1 x 256Mb 133Mhz Dimm
IBM Deskstar 30Gb HD
Creative GeForce 256 GTS 2 32Mb

Cheers!

What you've shown here looks good. Be sure to get good RAM, like Crucial.

Any other components you're gonna put in? Sound card? Net card? CDROM? DVD? CD-RW?

None in what you've listed, you may want to do a search on any soundcard problems that may exist as you've not listed one. There have been some people lately mentioning issues with SB Lives.

YES, get ddr mobo and ram. If you buy pc133 right now your wasting money. Try a Asus A7M266 mobo, or maybe the A7A, or wait for the kt266 chipset to mature.

Don't you mean Creative Geforce 2 GTS?
Get a Turtle Beach Santa Cruz sound card.

I am not a creative lover, its quite the opposite, but they make good soundcards so I would look there. I have it and running the mobo I advised you get above, and no problems.

Thanks for the comments :). As far as sound cards go, it'll probably be a bog standard SB16 or SB128. Network card will be a Linksys 10/100, generic DVD and a Creative Dxr3 mpg decoder though hopefully that won't be needed with this spec!

If I were building an AMD system from scratch I'd get a nice case and a 450W PS.

Quite the opposite. DDR motherboards hold only a slight margin of performance over SDR-based motherboards right now.

I am with yucky, DDR systems show very little gain in performance. The best performance/price ration can be found in mobo's using the Via KT133A w/ 266fsb and pc133ram. Tests show that the TBirds benefit from the bus speed increase more that the ram increase.
