new system won't turn on... (P6B Deluxe, E6600, 7600 GS)

just bought the system, trying to turn it on for a test run, already ran into problems.

the P5B's standby blue light turns on. I can turn on the system via the power switch on the case, the fans start up, the P5B lights turn red (which is "active")

but there's no output on the monitor and no beeps from the bios

since this was supposed to be a minimal boot I didn't connect everything... I did the following:

1) connected the video card to the mb. no power supply link is needed for the card.
2) connected the cpu, ram, hdd. connected the cpu heatsink fan cable.
3) connected the main power supply line to the mb, as well as the 4-pin line
4) connected the power/res switches + leds

I have no other pci-e x16 cards to test to see if there's something wrong with the card.

I can't tell if the card is "on" as it's a fanless card with a passive heatsink

is there anything else I should try?

If you get no beep codes with ram and video removed and re-seating cpu doesnt help either.
Then you need to make sure motherboard isnt grounding out on the case.
The usual method is to remove the motherboard from the case and do a test run on a piece of cardboard outside the case to be sure.

would the mb lights even be coming on / the fans be able to stay on if it was grounding to the case?

I've had motherboards grounding to the case before, but this doesn't look like that. when that happens usually the fans will spin up for a split second then die down. with this they stay on, the only problem is no video output

And no post.
If you're not getting a post beep.
And no error beeps with vid card and/or ram removed.

Then your setup isnt even posting(starting), so its never even getting a chance to show video.

Have you EVER gotten a post beep or any error beens since its been assembled?

Did a search, yeah seems like a common problem with that board if the ram is incompatatble.
So you might be on the right track with trying a different stick of ram and seeing what happens.

But thats BS if ya ask me, it should at least give a beep error code.
What good do they think beep codes are for if they dont work!

Also saw reports of the boards shipping bios not supporting newer cpu's and that will also cause a no-post / no-beep situation also.
Now that i would DEFINATELY look into!
Id contact asus to be sure you have a newer bios.
If not, id complain until they sent me an updated bios chip.

Also, this may seem stupid , but ya never know. 😉

If your psu has a pci express 4 pin connector and a seperate 4 pin power connector, be sure you dont have the wrong 4 pin connector connected to the mobo.

Dont laugh too hard, i've seen people do it b4.
but at least it was an "easy fix for them".
😉

I have a list of things to check on this page (the second link), if you don't determine what the problem is and want more ideas to check.
