hi..i just threw together a system consisting of:

soyo SY-D6IBA dual proc main board
2 x celery 366 -> 550 on tekram slockets with chrome orbs
matrox g200 vid card
smc 10/100 nic
3com 10/100 nic
sb16 sound card
3 x ide harddrives
8x cdrom

all this ( plus 3 case fans ) are being powered by a 235 watt sparkle power supply
the strange part is that i can install win2k and win9x just fine, but linux wont install!
the cpus do 550 just fine ( had them in previos systems ) and all the other parts were part of my linux box before ( aka work in linux )
can anyone help!?

i burn the cd ( redaht 7.0 ) and then i boot off the cd-rom...i'm not that new to linux..but i've never encountered this..anyways i set up all the hardware ( i tried text mode and graphical install ) and it usually hangs when the modules are being detected or the packages are installing...just tried again and it hung right after i was done assigning partitions..i'm going nuts..this has never happened to me and i cant understand why...i dont wanan start ripping out hardware and installing it bare ( if that even works )
do you think my copy of linux is bad? ( maybe crc error ) i will try to download mandrake 7.2 and see how i fair

meanwhile i go nuts :)

thanks for any help!

I can only think of two things that may be causing the problem:
1. Its a faulty burn of the CD or...
2. Your system has some instability that causes it to freeze at that point, but doesn't cause it to freeze in everyday ops in Windows.

Have you tried installing when the dual processors aren't OCed?

yes, i have clocked the celerons back to 366 ever since the first attempt..so i tried to install probably 5 times at 366. i also took out every pci and isa card and tried to install with a diff agp card..also had trouble...i also got a utility from western digital and verufied all of my hardrives...i've never seen this before...i hope a re-bern of the iso will help..

What size are your drives? Have you re-installed 2k since you started trying linux? Is this a dual boot system?

I had a similar problem trying my WD 27 gig drive. Don't remember how, but I screwed up the partition table bad and rh7 couldn't write the partition table out after the defition of partitions and mount points. I ended up lo level formatting.

It can be the case of a bad CD-ROM, have you tried with another one???

Also are trying to install linux after or before the w2k, not that it might be issue, but its better to install w2k first and then linux, with lilo on the partition and not on the mbr...
