new system, windows error...help!

ok my prob is this: just got a new system put together and windows is giving me its bull on how it loads everything (fat32, etc etc) but when it 'starts windows' it says 'windows has shut down for an error' etc. that blue screen that goes on about 'if this is your first time seeing...etc'

what can i do?

i hadn't installed any drivers on the system yet and this is the hardware on it.

- p4 2.8ghz 800mhz fsb
- 512 pc3200 ram
- 256mb pci-x radeon x700
- memorex 52x cdrom
- 120gb ide hard drive

could it have to do with this lil 2 prong white connector that looks like it'd fit a fan but is smaller than a fan connector?

First question: do you have firewall protection to keep your non-streetwise raw Windows installation from "taking candy from strangers?" What version and service-pack of Windows is it?

no firewall and its 'windows corporate' edition. the version released to companies. the disk works fine on this comp, but i can't figure out why it'd shutdown before booting on my other one

Are you legal with the corporate edition? That musta' cost you a bundle to license 🙂

I think one of these combined with a 99¢ power splitter would fix the problem. Service Pack 2 patches the holes that the worms are looking to exploit and activate the Windows Firewall, among other things. And SP2 may not work on your 'corporate edition' WinXP installation. Contact your IT personnel if you want to get some help with that.

hmm...

i'm trying to install windows for first time on this computer.

it goes thru the load screen where it isntalls all the little things (scrolling through the list at the very bottom) then it says 'starting windows' in text, and doesn't even load the splash screen.
