Hey everyone been lurking around the forums for a while now, learnt alot about issues and overclocking and hardware from anandtech and everyone of you. really appreciate the realm of knowledge everyone contributes to this forum. now down to business
I've been living off my laptop for quite long and finally got off my ass to build a new rig.
Things I am gonna be doing with this desktop is DVD burning, programming, webdesigning, different os experimentations, some gaming, sound producing and video editing.

Specs are as follows:

Case: Silver Stone TJ05 with Thermal module and Window

Power Supply: OCZ 600 Watts Power Stream OCZ600ADJ - 600W

CPU: AMD FX-55

RAM: OCZ EL DDR PC-4200 Dual Channel Platinum

Mobo: Asus A8N SLI Deluxe

Primary HD: WD Raptor 74GB

Secondary HD: WD Caviar SE Serial ATA 250 GB Hard Drives ( WD2500JD )

Video Card BFG 6800 Ultra PCI-E

Primary DVD Burner: Plextor PX - 716SA

Secondary DVD Burner: NEC - 3520D

Montior I am waiting for the Viewsonic VP191B Version 2, should have 8ms and 700contrast

any suggestion and recommendation is welcomed

explain by cutting what hardoware?? I do plan on coverting this into a watercooling system in a year or so after my abuse lol
any suggestion is recommended so if u don't like it feel free to critize

Here's my suggestion:

Change the CPU to a 90nm 3500+. Personally, I think the 3200 and 3000 are much better for the money, but if you're already planing on spending that much, you might as well get something that has fast stock speeds. You are only loosing 400mhz, but you are spending about 1/3 the money. That 400mhz is about 15% of the clockspeed of the fx-55, but that only equates to maybe a 7% speed difference in real use. Plus if you're overclocking, the 90nm A64's can usually hit fx-55 speeds and beyond easily.

Change PS to a 420w power stream. 600w is complete overkill. 420w from a quality company is plenty. I am running my rig (in sig) on just 330.

Change ram to value ram. On the A64's, ram speed does very little to affect the overall speed of the computer. Value ram is probably half the price, but you will loose no speed. When you overclock, just use a divider and you will never notice a difference.

Also, I have heard that the asus sli board has trouble overclocking. You might want to look into that.

price isn't a big issue rite now performance in the long run is where the investment is @ I have past experience as a tech and sales at a computer store in canada. and form customer review etc. issues with overclocking and stablity asus still ownz, purchasing the board and waiting for a bios update is the rrecommdend solution

I do plan on tweaking the rails and voltage to the system itself, so ocz power supply is essential, I am also planning on getting the Xp-120 HS and the plan fan
with artic silver 5 if anyone has any other suggestion pls feel free to critizie

Money is no object? Great!

Dump the cRaptor and get some yummy 15k SCSI drives. You can get rid of that other unreliable Western Digital drive and get yourself a big 10k Atlas or Cheetah.

Why not just go dual while we're at it? Mmmm... dual Opteron 252s....

And SLI??? 2 6800ultras?...

The A8N-SLI Deluxe overclocks just fine. You just need to update the crappy 1002 bios that ships with most boards (not sure if newer boards have the 1003 bios or still the 1002) to either the 1003 or 1004 final bios to get some decent overclocking. The main complaint people have with it seems to be that it won't go much past about 240mhz RAM at 1T timings. I too have read that A64's like tighter timings rather than higher mhz so my RAM speeds are not the best but they have decent timings and I got about a 760mhz overclock on the stock HSF and only a slight voltage bump.

lol, ok let me clarified, REASONABLE PRICING, I don't plan on spending like 1 grand on 1 hd 😛 but yeah FX chip definately stays beacuse I plan on switching over to watercooling in a year or so and abuse it 🙂 which is why I am investing in the Fx chip
I am just leaving myself room to upgrade later on as I probley would, I Am aware of the bios issue and the tight timming anyone used the OCZ Vx rams on the A8N SLI Deluxe board?? that was orginally what I was gonna get,

oh yeah lastly, thermalright XP-120 with artic silver 5 sounds good?
