New system problems: internet connection

hey there, i just built a new system on an abit kv8 pro with a 3000+ and am using the onboard nic. for some reason, my internet bandwidth is only a fraction of what my previous computer and both of the other computers in the house have. where they will get 1000 kbps from a given server i will get only 100 kbps from the same. can anyone help me with this? thanks
