Heh, nice rig hmm I would say just stay with ur current crt it's really nice and save some money, It won't hurt u :> and these days the raptor isn't better than any fast 7200rpm 16mb drives... just pick 2 wd 250 gb 16mb and u'll be settled. and about the graphic card pick the evga 7800gtx ko it has a lifetime warranty, step-up which let's u change ur gpu within 3 months and u only have to pay the difference... hmm and ofcourse the best support ever? :D, take the ocz powerstream 520w SLI-READY which works pretty awesome with dfi boards it will do the work and ofcourse have fun with it :p

Well money is obviously not an issue with this build so why not go with the OC. As far as SLI right now for the price I don't believe it would be worth it for you with the high end card you have. Obviously you will see improvment with SLI but exvept for FEAR on the highest settings your card will perform perfectly.

For that DFI MB there are a few of them that appear almost the same, im not sure what the diff is other then pricing seems to go from like 130-190 can anyone explain what the diff is on those?

For the HD im thinking using the 10k one as the boot/OS/fast app drive and the 400 gig as the main storage other, any thoughts on that? what u think on those drives ?

For that Video card, is that version that much better or will any 7800gtx really do the trick and at how much less ?

Memory ? the one i picked seems like popular quality brand.

Still cant decide on Case/ps. What PS is really required for this type of setup? is 480-500 enough? what brand for good ,quiet (relativly)
Cases? The basic antec one (3000 one) seems ok, the COOLER MASTER Wave Master TAC-T01-EK Black looks nice, the antec 180 does to, and those lan li ones also. I dont want windows or flashing lights, i want a nice looking case that will hold all this and keep it running cool so it needs enough airflow/fans etc. Anyone have a similar setup and what case/ps are you running? Dont plan on going crazy OC so dont think im going the water cool route, prob going to leave the retail hs/fan unless can show me it isnt sufficent. Let me know, i think im going to run by frys tomorrow to look at cases up close so any recommendations tonight are good.

I ordered the 2405 monitor so just trying to piece togehter the system to run it. Thx for all the info so far

one is SLI and the other isnt

thats how it should be done

i would personally go with a cheaper one, that one is clocked slightly higher and will provide a very miniscule performance gain. not worth the $

OCZ is the best memory company IMO, i wouldnt change it

Still cant decide on Case/ps. What PS is really required for this type of setup? is 480-500 enough? what brand for good ,quiet (relativly)
Cases?

my personal favorite PSU right now is the enermax liberty 500w, simply the best thing out there for the price IMO

this is good too:http://www.monarchcomputer.com/Merchant...duct_Code=100346&AFFIL=pricewatch&NR=1

for the case, i would stick to the P180

Nice looking system.

About the PSU: 350W would probably be enough for you, but if you wanna be safe, and have room for OCing and upgrading, get atleast a 400W unit, from a name brand. Personally I like Antec power supplies. A 430/480/550 TruePowerII should be just about right for you.

Modern 7200rpm drives with ncq and 16mb caches can outperform 10,000rpm raptors. You might want to consider just getting a 400GB-7200RPM-16MB drive, rather than that dual drive setup. It'll probably be just as fast, cheaper, and more reliable.

Hey man,

First off, check out my thread.. here's link..just scroll down a little and you'll see my updated gear list that i'm buying on teusday so far.. you seem to be doing very similar things and may get some ideas off that list...

http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview...adid=1722599&STARTPAGE=3&enterthread=y

Secondly, and don't get me wrong.. I DONT want to discourage what you did, but the 2005FPW was the way to go for inexpensive widescreen.. reason is the 2405(I almost bought it too..was just 250 more for the 24") has some major ghosting issues.. you can read a lot about it at widescreengaming.com

If you are not going to be gaming, then the 2405 is great! AND, again, don't get me wrong.. you may get very lucky and between what your eyes can handle and you getting a monitor with no probs at all you might not notice the ghosting..

Again..it was a struggle for me last week, but after reading all over the place I decided on the 2005fpw.. really would love to see a nice 16ms response time on the 2405, but for some reason dell went with a different company for the panel on the 24" then they did on the 20"..

.. take it all with a grain of salt though man.. you could end up getting it and not noticing any problems at all.. you may LOVE IT! I hope you do! But if you dont, don't worry..dell will take it back no questions asked for 21 days..you can always go down to the 2005fpw if you are not happy.

Good luck, and hope I was some help!

ya thx, well ill see i guess when it gets here. I may also use it for work. I have a dell 9100 laptop i use at home for most of my work and was thinking the 24 in screen would be great for all the crap i have open on my desktop. If i notice to much "ghosting" maybe will look at the others. Thats good list im looking at similar stuff, im just trying to see what the MB diff is with the DFI UT and non UT one? any ideas? both seem to be SLI just not sure. Also i see your going to do 2 cards right off? is there really anything using that right now? thx for the info

let the ideas keep coming

thx

sorry man, its widescreengamingforum.com

I'm new to that site..mis-typed it :)

as far as difference, I just got the latest model number.. I don't know what the diff in the two is just that the one I have listed is the newer one...

As far as the two gfx cards going sli, i'm not set in stone on that yet.. I think I might still go with the KO evga..get the top of the line, and get another one later when the price comes down on them...

But again, i'm not sure.. getting two of the regular evga ones is saving little over 100 bucks and I can o/c it myself, but from what It looks like the casing on the gfx card is better on the KO.. still researching that though.

well stopped by frys to look at cases and that Antec 180 case is real nice. Looks like lots of cooling, nice layout, very solid feel to it. The drive bays all come out and feel just solid. Any issues getting the DFI MB in that one? For any current owners what cooling did you use? you add any fans? Right now im leaning towards that one. Just need to figure out what PS to put in it, looks like it loads into the bottom of the case. Let me know

thx
