New system or upgrade

Hello all
My Exos 2 finally bit the dust after many years of faithful service. I took it out and put on a stock air cooler.

Specs from 2014 Build :
4790K (now with stock cooler, no overclock)
MSI Z97 Power Max AC (Pretty rock solid overclocking board)
2X8 2100Mghtz DDR 3 Ram
256GB Samsung 850
MSI 1070TI
800 watt power supply
other odds and ends

I want to get new water cooling for my cpu to get back to 4.8. OR get a new 8700k or 2700X along with requisite components. Not sure if it is worth it if I can get my 4790K to 4.8 to get new computer at this point.

I am light gamer and want to play FFXV, GTAV, Witcher, DIABLO 3 etc. I have 1920X1200 monitor because I do a lot of productivity work but will be getting new monitor soon.

Question: Should I just go with a Corsair H150i and compatible case (like a Corsair 750D for now with my old existing hardware or look at new system? Doesn't seem like performance jump is worth it but it has been four years (other than 1070Ti). I assume the Corsair or equivalent could go into new system down the road.

If I were in your shoes, I would just get a new cooler (and case if you want). Maybe upgrade everything in another 1-2 generations.

Yeah, that is my thought ... but that shiny new cpu box ... it just beckons even though I think it doesn't make sense. I have to get new case if I go with Corsair H150i or equivalent because it doesn't support the radiator.

Yeah, but all current Intel CPUs are affected by the Spectre/Meltdown exploit, and while they have released BIOS updates to fix the issue, it impacts performance. So in another couple of generations, Intel will have fixed the exploit at the hardware level, and both them and AMD will likely have moved onto the next die shrink (lower power and heat / likely good jump in performance).

Another suggestion:
If you already had sufficient case, why don't you look for air cooler like U14S? It will run rock solid for years and it's also cheaper than H150i.

My old Exos allowed a rock solid 4.8 on my 4790K. I would rather get Water AIO as I don't want to deal with custom water anymore as I get older lol. The water AIO will also go with new socket/cpu when Zen2/Intel 10700K? lol roll out, right?
