New System Options

Hi guys, new poster here, I registered cause I am putting together a new system and I need a bit of advice. Here's what I am planning on so far:

Shuttle SN25P (nforce 4)
Athlon 64 3200+
1 GB Corsair XMS
MSI Geofrce 6800 GT
72 GB Raptor (system drive)
120 GB WD (ATA 133, already have this drive, used for storage)
Sony DVDRW drive

Now my question is this- with the 3200+ cpu, is it worth it to get the 6800GT? Not sure if that cpu can push that card hard enough, maybe the extra cash would be better spent on another gig of ram? Also I see there are Winchester and Venice versions of that cpu to choose from, any recommendations?

Thanks Kensai, with 2 DIMM slots I would have to go with 2x1GB if I wanted that much. That's why I was thinking about it now, since it won't be possible to add a couple more sticks later. Just wondering if I sould get a 6600 instead and use the extra money for that 2GB.

Hi, welcome to AF.

All your components are nice, and if you get the Venice cored CPU, the 6800GT would make a good match for it.

If you're dedicated gamer, then you might as well go with the 6800GT, otherwise, get the 6600GT, and get an extra 1Gig of RAM

Oh yeah, definitely a dedicated gamer here. In fact, the whole reason I'm building this now is so that I'm prepared when Bf2 comes out. Thanks for the advice, I'll go with the 6800 for sure. Guess I'll pay the extra $20 for the Venice core, maybe I should read up on that to find out what I'm getting. 🙂 Thanks again.
