New system opinion

With all the information I got from all of you...this is what I ended up with:

I'm a Intel guy...what can I say. 🙂

Gigabyte GA-8IRX P4 DDR
Intel Pentium IV 1.7GHz CPU (Retail)
2 each Micron 256MB DDR SDRAM PC2100
Chaintech Geforce3 Ti 200 64MB
Enlight Pentium 4 Mid Twr Case w/325Watt
1 each 80MM Case Fan
Sony 52X EIDE CD-Rom ( I already have a burner for the system)
Sony 1.44 Floppy
Maxtor 40GB 7200RPM ATA100
Maxtor 60GB 7200RPM ATA100
MS Windows XP Home Edition
Keytronics P/S 2 KB
System Build, Burn and Config

OK, here's the "thing":

This system from Newegg.com is "about": $1138.99 + shipping

This system from a local vendor 30 minutes away is: $1297.00 + tax (includes a 3 year warranty, I already have 2 pc's from them and they are solid. They have been around for a long time)

I think I'm leaning toward letting someone else build it, they have proven themselves in the past. The $160 is not that much for some piece of mind, and I'm writing the PC off as a business expense.

What do you think?

As always...THANKS!!!

Mitch

I'd let the local place build it for me. If anything goes wrong that you don't want to deal with you can just take it back and let them figure it out. Unless you really want to build it yourself.

Just to let you know, a very similar machine costs $1059 at Dell (Two changes: a 1.8 GHz P4 and just one 80 GB HD). This quote was from the small business section, so add tax and shipping. There is free shipping and no tax on the home version, and that was a bit over $1200.

If you're planning to RAID those drives, you should get 2 of the same size because RAID will only recognize the smaller of the 2 drives. Other than that, I'd also get it from the company. Let's just say $160 for a 3-year warranty 😀

DELL = I think it's almost impossible to upgrade them, at least major upgrades.

RAID = Good point, but not only will I not be doing the "RAID" thing, but I would not even have a clue as to how to do it. 🙂

Thanks!

Mitch

why the 1.7 since the 1.6 northwoods are only 156.00?and a performance increase for about 11.00 cheaper just a thought...

hope this helps
