I'm planning on purchasing components for a new system. I've got a time tested Antec TruePower II 480w PSU in my old computer.

My new setup looks something like this:

Q6600
8800 GTS 320mg
Gigabyte DS3R
2x1gb OCZ DDR2 800
1 SATAII HDD
1 DVD+-RW

Will I need to purchase a new PSU along with my system?

Would the signs of a 12v rail inefficiency be the same as a power supply that doesn't supply enough watts? What were the signs of 12v lack of amps?
I only ask because I'm building a rig almost similar to yours (Q6600 GO stepping, and the 640mb EVGA 8800 GTS) and have a power supply (520w) that supplies 33a on the 12v (single rail).

I was getting very large vdroop and stability issues, random reboots, and artifacing in games at load.

The exact same rig with a E4300 ran fantastic, swapped the Q6600 back in, all of the same symptoms.

It might not be due to the "A" on your +12v. 27A seems quite sufficient.
You might better off getting PSU with 8-pin CPU power.

Most people buy power supplys bas on totaL amps ...watts really does not figure into the equation!
