All fans work properly.

Ok, so I turn on the computer, memory check is fine..
It lags to detect the IDE HD and DVD drive. But finally does.
If i hit DEL to get into bios...that too lags. Takes like a minute to load BIOS.

Also, when i boot, it shows my 2500...booting as 800mhz.
If i try to increase it, it says "Unknown processor 1200mhz" for example.

Could this be a bad cpu? or MOBO?
I only get 7 day warranty with newegg on this mobile chip cause its oem.
So i got to RMA it today if its the cpu! Please help...thanks!!! 🙂

like I said on your other thread
it's supposed to say Unknown processor cuz it's mobile cpu, it's all good, dont worry about it.
just change the setting to 133 x 14 or whatever defualt xp2500 setting is

not sure about "lag" bios

are you talking about changing the multipliers?
the jumpers on the board are all (correct) and in the default settings.

I dont want to OC the thing, I just want the damn thing working normal.
I mean it wont even let me boot off the CD. It trys too after about
3 or 4 mintues of loading and then it just give me a black screen.

yeah after i hit DEL it takes a while to boot up the bios. i dont get it.
ill give setting it to 133 x 14 a try. But i think thats around what it is right now.

Ok, i am about to give up and buy a Dell.

This thing is so lame.

Im using bios v1012 btw.
Ive tried everything.
SPD is 100%
its at 133x14.5 and it still shows 800mhz.

its just the ultimate lag machine. I waited about 10 mintues and it finally loaded the xp setup cd.
and then when i try to install it says HD not found. Even though it detects it on the Post screen.

arggggg

It's not the CPU, double check the jumper settings on the board. Unplug and reset everything, then boot up again.

Don't worry about the Unknown Processor part when you bootup. The A7N8X doesn't officially support the mobile Athlon XP. There's nothing wrong with your CPU or CPU/motherboard combo either.

The highest multiplier you can use without modifying your chip is 12.5X. The board as well as many other AMD boards use shared multipliers. If the stock multiplier is 12.5X or lower, then you'll have access to the lower range of multipliers. If the stock multiplier is 13.0X or higher, you'll have access to the higher range of multipliers.

Your best bet is to start from 200x9=1800MHz. Then work up the multiplier one increment at a time if you wish to overclock (you did buy the mobile to overclock right?)

It still doesn't explain why you lag though. Double check your master/slave settings for your drives.

im not installing with a floppy drive.

i dont think this matters at all does it?
i have it disabled in bios anyway.
