New System HS Question

I'm looking to buy a new system. Looks like an Athlon XP 1600+ on an EPoX 8KHA+. I'm wondering what a good HS to get is that won't break the bank. I'm also wondering if I need any more case fans (other than the HS and fan that comes with the Enlight 7237).

On another note, will new Hard Disks typically come with an IDE cable? It's been a long time since I bought a HD. I'm looking at the IBM 40GB at newegg. Does anyone know for sure?

Thanks for any help.

hi Croda

For that system, getting a Swiftech MC462A or an Alpha Pal8045 are very good. Either one may break your bank though depends what's your price range.. They will fit perfectly for the Athy systems like yours. On the other hand, ThermalRight SK-6 also very good while this may not break your bank and fit on anything. Athy boards, socket370's, even slockkets. All three are in the Top three coolers. so, it's up to you..

HD's don't usually come with IDE cables, at least not from my experience in ordering HD's.. usually the cables with the motherboards.

MC462 heatsinks are about $60-$70, but the sk-6 is only $33 at newegg, and it performs about as well and that is very surprising due to its small size.

It usually matter what you buy. If you buy an OEM HDD, you probably wont get any cables. But if you buy retail, you will probably get one. Can't guarantee it though. Or if it is ATA/66/100 either.

You already got some ideas for HSs

Now I know that retail HDs come with UDMA66/100/133 cables, unless your buying a UDMA33 retail drive, it will come with a UDMA33 cable. Now some online companies are nice enough to include a UDMA cable, but most will give nothing or charge you extra. I would opt to buy a retail hard drive if your building the system for yourself. As well hard drives is really the most expensive part in your computer with moving parts (unless you have some super duper highend fan) and its real hassle to replace since it contains all your data. I buy OEM drives if it really saves me 30-40 dollars but its well worth it when its only $10-$20 more.

Thats it for now.
