I`m in the proces of ordering new PC/ components and building it myself.
Please advise on the components I`m looking to buy
- Intel PIV 2.8 Ghz 800fsb
- Asus P800 deluxe (i865)
- 2* 512mb Kingston HyperX PC 3700 Cl3 (Kit)
- Zalman 400 W PSU
- Pioneer slot-in DVD
- Thermaltake Xaser III case
- 2* Maxtor 120 GB, 8mb Sata HDD (Will be running RAID)

Bringing over from my old pc:
- CL soundblaster audigy
- Cl Soundworks Dtt 3500 - Speakers
- Asus 52*24*52 CDRW
- Iiyama Vision master 454 19 inch monitor
- Asus Geforce 5900 Fx
- 40GB Maxtor HDD IDE (backup)
- PIV Waterkoelingset

Use: Gaming, internet, Will be overlocked

The most doutfull I `m about the memory. It is not on Asus` aproved list and I read several users complain about hyperx 3200 on the Asus mobo although there were no problems in anand`s test.. Furthermore I `m doubting between Kingston HyperX pc 3500 CL2 and this Kingston HyperX pc 3700 CL3 . Of course the pc 3700 will reach higher but it is only CL3. Any advise on this?

I tried to find a review with lower CAS setting@ low speed vs Higher CAS setting @ high speed but I fail to find this. ( only different CAS @ same speed)

Personally, I would get the PC3500. The PC3700 is more expensive and isn't rated that much faster. I'd rather save some money and run at cas 2.

Also, I'd probably go with a 2.4C. It will overclock a lot better than the 2.8 as well as save you some more money.

I`m tied to one certain shop. Price differences between the 2.8 and 2.4 is $80 and between the Kingston modules is $ 20 in favor of the PC 3500.

The PC3500 CAS 2 will probably overclock and might run at 3700 speeds but with CAS 2.5 or 3 or something.

I haven't done any speed testing recently, but the last time I ran speed vs. cas these were the results:

Taken from an Epox 8k7a (AMD760, just to show the age) Memory was 256mb of cas2 pc2100.

145 @ cas 2 was benching the same as 155 @ cas 2.5, in both terms of memory bandwidth and a few synthetic tests (3dmark2k1, etc)

These are far lower speeds than you're looking at, but perhaps they can at least give you some information to work with.
