New System Build Question

I'm building my first system (all components will arrive next week). My plan is to use my existing WD 100GB drive in my new system. It is running W2k.

Now...my question:

Can I just put my existing hard drive in and use it as is? I'm sure it would be a good idea to do a clean install, but the system that this drive is running in is very stable. Will switching the drive from a P3/600 Dell to a homemade P4/1.6a cause problems? This probably seems like an elementary question but the answer is important.

If I here from those that respond that a new install is critical, I'll start conducting a major back to CDR now. If it is not that critical, I'll switch the drive to the new system and take it from there.

Thanks!

You'll have to do a clean install. Windows 2000 is real good at not messing up when changing chipsets but since the old system relied upon Dell software and drivers it would be better if you did a clean install to get all that Dell crap off of your OS.

I know you are both right. For the record though, it is my understanding that I "could" just switch drives.

It's a good thing a got a good deal on CDR's a while back.
