I like Tom Welling (he reminds me of Chris Reeves in terms of looks) but I'm glad the movie decided to cast another. If Tom Welling was cast then the movie would risk having a TV feel to it and would lack "newness" that's needed to generate excitement for a movie.

I'm gonna be very interested in seeing how the new Superman and Lois Lane will be like.

I'm sorry, but Kevin Spacey drops gorilla turds on Gene Hackman

In this context, Gene Hackman played a great Lex. Both are different genre actors.

With a French Connection vs KPax kinda thing. I don't think I've ever been disappionted in any movie they headlined in. I gave Spacey a pass for the Austin Powers 3 cameo, even though that was the funniest part of the movie.

Also, prior to The Usual Suspects, I had never even heard of Spacey...

I'm gonna have to go against the consensus here and say that doesn't look gay to me at all

Hehe...I still snicker at the line "would you rather wear yellow spandex" directed at wolverine.

They should have completely revolutionized Superman's costume. I think making it from wolf pelts, saran wrap, and duct tape would have made a nice, new costume.

Isn't this the movie that they spent all their time obsessing about how big a sock to stuff in the guys pants?

guy1: Can't make it too big. This is a family movie, you know.
guy2: Yeah, but he is superman.

Edit: found it.

How did they pick that candy-ass looking dude for Superman?

I agree that the guy from Smallville should have been used.

Dunno if it's been said yet, but I think Tom Welling (Clark Kent on Smallville) had contractual obligations that prevented him from being in the movie. He would've done a great job, though, yes.

This guy...I dunno, he doesn't look very superman-ish, but maybe it's just the poses they've got him in. I don't mind the costume much; besides, superman was never about the costume, but more the man inside the costume.

Guess we'll just have to wait and see.

As far as the storyline, I think I remember hearing that it goes something like this: Superman was away from earth for however many years (5-10 maybe?), has come back, and is seeing what the world's been like now that it's had to move on without him.

27 years old doesn't qualify as old? What does then? Only silent films?

I mean if you were a super hero, would you use a rubber cast to inflade your own ego?

Are you telling me that THIS is not inflated?

Superman has always had that look in the suit. The movie just kind of takes over and makes you believe.

Are you telling me these stillshots don't look as 'gay'?

And ten times worse was Dean Caine in the popular TV show!

As far as Tom Welling goes - he's good in smallville, but he definitely has a metro look too. I don't necessarily think he'd be any better than this guy.

actually, i think the problem with superman is its too not-dark. literally and otherwise. i find it interesting that the warner brothers movies are trying to set up a "timeless" feel about the architecture and the sets because, like it or not, the big boys of the DC universe just dont fit in so well to our modern world.
batman could pull off the cape because of the night...but this superman looks absurd.
and kevin spacey sucks.

edit:
and yes, the x-men outfits stunk. so did the movie.

Actually, I don't think either of those actor lookeds "gay". Dean Cain looked lame, not gay, in that suit. Reeves looks fine in that suit, not goofy, not gay. He's the only actor who's been able to sell me the idea of Superman, IMHO.

Spacey is great when he plays mean characters. Always gets a laugh out of me.
