Should checked here before pulling the trigger.

Did this:

How bad did I goof up?

Got the CPU on a pickup from brick and mortar Wal-Mart. The package was suspiciously already opened. Got the only one for miles so return is not an easy option.

Got some really old stuff to give away or throw away if anyone wants it or knows what to do with it.

Got 1 complete Core2Duo system w HD4850, less hard drive.

EDIT: (A MB, RAM and dual core AMD CPU adx2500ck23gq) GONE!

2 old video cards, a GT240 and a HD3850.

Some junky PSes

If you’re happy, then there’s no goofing up.

The 7600X is currently $199 on Amazon.

I’d go with a better PSU, fully modular 750W ATX 3.0 isn’t too expensive.
For the GPU, Radeon 7800 XT is down to $480. GeForce 4070 Super is a good choice also. Standing pat with the OG 4070 is perfectly fine too.

For the cooler, DeepCool AG400 is about $30 on Amazon. But what you have will be fine.

I believe any Best Buy recycles e-waste for free, if your waste collector/city doesn’t do it.

Happy building!

Thanks!

Paid 199 for the 7600x at Walmart.

Started out around $1700 with the 7800x3d or 13th or 14th gen Intel and a new 850w SeaSonic but paired it down to the 7600x and a leftover Antec 650w that I already have, hoping to get by.

Kinda favor nVidia on the GPU. I play RTX Quake and Cyberpunk with the raytracing.

All the RGB crap is for the kid.

My 3 fan 3080 barely fits in the case. Nice that the 4070 is 2 fan...

Looks like you are not interested in my "ewaste", lol.

Yup, Nvidia wins for RT! I believe the YouTube pros have been advocating for spending the extra $60 on the 4070 Super. ;)

Agreed that if you have a PSU that works (did notice the $0 cost), then using it is fine _unless_ it's older than 10 years. Nvidia also wins on power efficiency.

I actually wanted to call dibs on the Core 2 Duo parts (not inside the case), but honestly WHYYY? :)

Well that was interesting...

Downloaded w11 multi and used Rufus to make a bootable USB with the w11 ISO. Bought a w11 pro key from Kinguin for $25 plus $9 service fee minus $3 discount code. Worked great! Windows installed in about 5 minutes and the Kinguin key activated so we are all good.

The opened AMD 7600x appears to work fine.

This is my first RGB system, so cool that even the RAM can be synced to the RGB fans.

Now the interesting part:

My son cried actual tears when I installed the silver Antec 650, because silver (and used).

He ponied up $107.74 of his own money to get a black EVGA SuperNOVA 850. This represents a significant fraction of all the money he has. The Fractal case covers the PS so you can only see it from the back but he had get rid of that used silver PS.

In the mean time I installed a black Rosewill Fortress 80 plus platinum 550.

The EVGA 850 is backordered till mid month, think I should chance installing the RTX4070 with the 550? What is the worst that would happen?

PCPartpicker says 416W total for your build so you will probably be OK with the 550W temporarily. You can always cap the frame rate on any games to use less GPU power to be safe. The 650W would do even better and teach that boy that sometimes it's ok when things don't match! :tearsofjoy:

The 550w seems to be working just fine with the 7600x and the RTX 4070.

Hooked up a Kill-a-watt and playing my son's favorite game BeamNG on ultra draws around 270 watts max. Quake RTX and Cyberpunk on Raytracing Ultra topped it out around 315 watts.

Not planning to run FurMark, no sense chancing it.

The old 3950x with the RTX 3080 pulled around 515 watts during the same benchmarks.

The 3950/3080 system got a higher combined TimeSpy score with the GPU scores being about the same but the CPU score being higher for the 3950.

OTOH the 7600/4070 did a bit better on Cyberpunk bench raytracing ultra with 93fps vs 80fps.

Pretty happy with the efficiency improvement.

Got the RGB CPU fan, case fans and RAM all synced but the RGB GPU is doing its own thing.

Any way to sync the GPU as well? It does not show up in the RGB control software.
