New SSD Win 7 x64 install: need service pack 1 or not?

the way upgrade / oem / retail works vary by windows version.
With XP it was trivial to change a CD from one type to another
With Win7 I don't know, try googling it
 
I bought a retail copy of Windows 7 Home Premium long before SP1. You would think that this would entitle you to free legit SP1 ISO's from MS as part of the deal.

In a few years time when we're on SP3 and if you decide to reformat using your ownly trusted disc it'll be an epic.

used to be you could get an updated CD for the cost of shipping. not sure if that is still true or not
 
Well it looks like the regular/non-upgrade version of Win 7 x64 pro ISO download has the exact same name as the one I downloaded after purchase, called:
X15-65805.iso

So, unless someone knows otherwise, it looks like the ISO is the same regardless of version, and the actual key controls whether you have the full or upgrade version.

So, I'll be using the DigitalRiver ISO that comes with SP1, and see what happens when I try my upgrade key (after installing Vista first).
