New SSD, already half full?!

Hello,

Just installed the Agility 3 128gb. Went into bios and it was under boot options, loaded pc from the old HDD to update the firmware and...well, im very confused.

A new drive called OS (E🙂 popped up, 46gb free from 86gb. Under properties this is the new SSD. What is this?! It has what seems basic files and some asus and nvidia stuff but alot of them are empty.

Can anyone give any insight before I make this my primary drive with a new OS install?

Honsou.

sounds strange,
go to computer managment, and see if that partition actually belongs to the ssd, if it is then someone have had to put those files on it.

Disk 1 Basic 111.79gb, 25gb healthy (primary partition. OS (E:_ 86gb NTFS healthy, primary partition.

Just ran HD Tune and health has warnings on reallocated sector count, and reallotated event count, but I assume thats because its a SSD.

Ran the firmware update, only two small revisions away from the newest.

Im guessing a format and see what happens?

Honsou.

Its like a pre-loaded OS full of Asus stuff for SSD's.

I wouldnt mind...but I cant find ANY info online about this at all.

Not waiting any longer for a reply 😀 going to use the ocz tool and erase the disk and install windows.

Wish me luck!

Sounds strange. (in a bad way)
Exchange for a new one, is what I'd go for.
Maybe it's a device that's been sent back once, then got run through testing and was deemed to be healthy, packed back up and sent out as new.
It shouldn't even be available for use, when you first install it, as no file system should be on there.
Even if it was sold as a refurb, that's pretty shoddy.

Wiped it, clean Win 7 install. Throw back in the old HDD and started moving a few things over and reinstalling one or two programs.

Disk management is picking up unallocated space but I believe thats from the old OS, and deleting it would prevent me from ever booting from the old HDD if the SSD ever fails.

Going from one big HDD to what I have now, its blindingly fast. Steam games load very fast, windows boots in about 7 seconds. I have 25gb free from the 128gb but one game is around 60gb, so once im finished with that we are happy 🙂

I can understand why people say having a SSD is like a drug. If this failed every 3 months I would probably do everything I can to make sure I always have one.

No, this isn't a good sign.
It don't matter if it is a HD or SSD, those type of errors would mean a RMA in pretty much all cases.

Some SMART stats cannot be read properly on an SSD. Run CrystalDiskInfo or SSDlife Pro.
