Ever try fitting a Z06 through an autocross course? That's a mighty big car to try and turn in such a small area. Remember Horsepower means little in such a venue (well it does play a factor, but not as much as handling). In most cases upgrading the brakes will improve your times more than upgrading horsepower. Sure the Z06 probably has 2x (or close to it) of a CooperS, but if I remember right the Mini has like the highest slolom speed ever. I know the Z06 can get pretty good grip, but that's more a matter of it's huge tires than good handling. Not to put the Z06 down...it's really a pretty nice car, but it's not the be-all-end-all at the track. I'd be willing to bet even a measley Miata could hang pretty well with a Z06 in a tight autox course.

Lateral grip is one thing, but it isn't the sole determiner of whether a car handles better than another. The Z06 may have a tremendous lateral grip advantage over the CooperS or the Miata and whatnot, but, the reason the Miata pulled a better time in the SCCA autocross is, I'm betting, due to its lighter weight. The lighter a car, the faster it can enter corners.

Now, on a roadcourse with some decent straights, the raw power of the Z06 would show itself againt the Miata or the CooperS.

It would have to be a VERY VERY tight course for those cars to hang ww/ a Z06.

Note all the Camaros & Corvettes right up there near the top? If anything this proves that the driver has a HUGE influence over the outcome.

People love to talk sh!t about F-bodies & Corvettes, but the reality is they are quite capable.

Miatas are fun but handlnig is one of the last things I really care about in a vehicle purchase. I haven't squeeled hard around a corner since I was 16 and had a deathwish. Handling adds to stability and confidence on the road but far and away more important is the ability of the car I'm driving to humiliate somebody on the highway and to do that you need power.

When comparing raw times (which is referring to the actual laptime if Im not mistaken), the Z06 beats the Cooper in the first too links you showed, I didn't check the rest though.

ok first I love corvettes always have always will but I'm not liking this one.

Looks like someone took the c5 and lowerd the "polygon count" looks like its out of a low end video game. What makes the vette great is it always has nice smooth lines not angular crap like this thing. oh well guess I'll have to wait 5-7 years to see if they get the c7 right
