New Splinter Cell: Conviction story trailer - do want

Ubisoft just released a new trailer for the upcoming PC and Xbox 360 game, Splinter Cell: Conviction. The trailer gives the basic plot line of the game along with Sam Fisher's motivation to get back into the spy game and how that wraps into a bigger conspiracy. The trailer asks, "If everything you loved was taken away how far would you go to take it back?"

Is Splinter Cell still nigh unplayable with extremely convoluted controls and horrible level design? I think I played the first two and they were both terrible. I know I at least played the first...

I remember sneaking through a building and having to restart a million times because a random guard spotted me (whatever happened to taking them out before they triggered an alarm?) and also there was this level at night where I had to sneak around but snipers kept spotting me and I had to restart a million times.

Not fun. Do not want.

From what I've read and seen, Conviction isn't going to be as much of a sneak-fest as the previous games. There's going to be sneaking but it is also going to be more action-oriented. Or, it will at least give you the option of sneaking or being action-oriented.

My biggest problem was the control scheme was just horrible. And this is coming from an MGS fan. 😛

The fact that as soon as a guard spotted you equaled game over was equally bad as well. Why can't you knock the guy out or tranq him before he sets of any alarms? If it really wants to aim to be a realistic sneaking game, then it needs to be ah...more realistic? MGS at least had the option to toggle "spotted = game over". You still had the option to disable the alerted guard before his buddies find out. To me, that is more realistic than if one guard catches a glimpse of you then game over.

Interesting concept for a game, but I'll probably pass based on past experience.

Ryan - no offense, but I don't know how you thought the controls were horrible. 😛 I've bought and played every single Splinter Cell since it originally came out on the XBox. I'd go through the game just playing it for fun and beating it, then going back and sneaking through every level without killing anyone. (Subdue only if necessary) If the guard caught you, then it's because you're running out into open daylight or under a light.

My issue with the series has been the multiplayer - it really hasn't been that fun. The co-op in this game looks great though.

EDIT: video is a lil cheesy...still excited though. I will say the original SC:C video was excellent. (Where Sam was in full beard walking around a campus) Was disappointed it was scrapped but hopefully the series revamp will be worth it.

You haven't played Chaos Theory. You need to play that because it fixed everything that was wrong with the previous two games!

What's interesting about this game is that none of the Deniable Ops multiplayer modes allow for more than 2 players.

Game looks great, though. I've only ever played Double Agent which I thought was OK.

Last Splinter Cell game I've played was Chaos Theory (and I only bought that because of the soundtrack was done by Amon Tobin) but Conviction looks pretty damn good.

Do want.

man. this looks awesome. also, i lost interest in mgs real fast, so if this isn't like mgs (which the other splinter cells were not like either), then ill be happy

so badass! reminds me of a Bourne movie actually. It's been a while since I've played double agent, and I had fun with that so I'm looking forward to this one.

I have double agent and I hate it. You have to play pretty much exactly the way it wants you to or it's game over. Constantly reloading the game is no fun. And 2 magazines of ammunition? WTF. Awful game.

Its not a FPS game, you're not supposed to be running through shooting everyone.

Played the demo, I didn't like it one bit. Didn't even have the patience to finish it - not buying the game, that's for sure 🙂

I haven't played a SC game since the original which I never finished. TOO much sneaking around for me. It was certainly very pretty when it was released though.
