New speakers for approx 250 and under?

This is what I get for not keeping up with the sound world I suppose.

Well, my FPS1800 speakers are...well...dying.

So, I need to go out and see what I can don (new speakers probably)

What's a good speaker system between 100 - 250? preferably not over 200, but I do what I have to do...

and, what's with all these horror stories of the z560s?

(bleh...the last 2 creative speakers i've gotten have crapped out on me really fast, so i dunno 'bout getting their inspire...)

Thanks

LOGITECH Z-560's!!!! they cost about $150 shipped. 400 watt 4.1 THX setup with a 188 watt sub, what more could you want? serioulsy though, they are the best PC speakers this side of the Klipsh, and some reviews have them beating the klipsch in sound quality, and not to mention the fact that they are HALF THE PRICE!!!

I've heard (too many times) of people having to return these things in less than a month because of something breaking down.

I've also heard that Altec Lansing 641s rival the z560/klipsch speakers as well.

i just need 'em primarily for listening to music/watching movies. if it can do classical well (and who knows when I'll come across speakers that will), that'd be really great.

hmm, I have not tried the altec lansing speakers. I do listen to classic music as well as watch DVD's and these speakers preform wonderfully for both. Plus they can really fill up a party hall as they are soooo stinking loud, and that is just at 50% volume!!! I have a somewhat biased opinion as these are the ones I read about and so bought, but they work very well for me. Nothing broke so far but I have only had them about a month. Anyway, hope that helps

if you live on your in a house please get klipsch or z560's

but if you are surrounded by neighbors please do them a favor an get something quiet like a pair of altec or yamaha's

z560's are simple too loud even at the lowest settings.... good for parties not good for getting in trouble with your neighbors

better price = z560
better quality = klipsch 5.1
better sound equipment = (pioneer, yamaha and etc) 6.1 receiver with 6 satelites and a sub i suggest klipsch home speakers or bose

after hearing the z560s at fry's, i was pretty much sold.

no klipsch there, and i didn't really want to get another set of speakers by creative.

so, because $210 or so (tax. blah) is a tad too much for speakers i could get at multiwave, i went there and got 'em for $150.

i opened 'em up, and to my surprise they're all black?

is this some sort of new revision? have they changed anything other than color?
