New space sims that support a joystick

I'm having a problem finding newer space sims, Wing Commander,Darkstar One,FreeSpace 2,Independence War 2, that support a joystick worked great. Star Wraith looked really good, but I couln't get the joystick to work right. I tried all the fixes to no avail. Please help.
System: Opty144 @2.6,Asus A8N-e, 2GB Corsair @ 2-3-3-8-1T, 7600 GT vid card,Antec SP450 PSU, XP Pro 32.

Probably the coolest thing I ever did was play freelancer with a rattlesnake. I consider this a valid cause.

X3, the best looking space sim I've seen to date.

But beware it's main focus is trading and economy with ships, people on the X3 forums talk about the empire they've built over the course of a year (there is no MP). While not as bad as EvE Online's learning cliff, it'll take some effort to figure out as there is no useful tutorial and the manual leaves out most details.

Now as to the time consuming aspect of this game, if your not up to it but want some space fighting then cheat yourself whatever amount of cash and reputation with the races to buy the ships/stations you want (you can have a truly awesome space station for your fleet). There are also many mods for the game.

Jumpgate Evolution MMO is also due to come out Q3 or Q4 this year, it's a space fighter game where you directly control the ship.

Sonic Ice: Thrustmaster Top Gun Fox 2 Pro USB. Windows XP Pro drivers.
ZZZ Guy: Sounds like an interesting game, but I'm not into building fleets or an Empire. Just put me in the cockpit, let me add better weapons, and let me shoot the bad guys! Jumpgate is right up my alley....thanks for the tip.

Black Prophecy, a realtime space combat MMO like Jumpgate Evolution, just released a gameplay trailer. The graphics looks really nice for an MMO, and the combat looks a bit more intense than Jumpgate's. It seems to be a little bit lighter in terms of MMO features, but that's not necessarily a bad thing for someone just looking for some action. It probably won't come out any time soon though.

Jesus Christ Black Prophecy looks freakin' awesome, totally what Freelancer should've been, can't wait!

I've played Jumpgate both beta and retail, I liked how the game is very player driven...but outside of that, it didn't have much to offer and the combat was pretty wonky.

not that i like eve, but this looks like a complete ripoff of eve. although, this looks liek it might be better since you can actually control your ship.

Which, in turn, would make it quite different from Eve. I'd see it more as a progression of the Elite type space sim in to the MMO genre, something that's been missing for a good while, hopefully Black Prophecy can do it justice.

I think we're a little off track.....Let's start again. I play single ship space sims that work with a joystick. I don't want to build fleets or empires.....just shoot up the bad guys. Independence II and DarkStar One were a couple of my favorites.

I just wanted to resurrect this thread. I recently bought X3: Terran Conflict 2.0 (Just a patched version of TC, nothing special and the patch is free) and you can jump right in to space combat. It reminds me so much of Freelancer and it is a great game. If you pick the Terran Defender (I think that is what it is called) you start in a fighter and just go around blowing stuff up - I don't have a joystick, but the mouse flight/fight controls are similar to Freelancer.

Do not buy X3: TC from Steam as it has a 5 install/system limit (I forget which) whereas the DVD version has only a CD check with no install/system limits. And just to make it more clear, reinstalling 5 times through Steam will mean you have to contact TAGS (the DRM X3: TC uses and egosoft -devloper- will refuse to offer help and direct you to TAGS) to request more installs. I also am not aware of any revoke tool having been added.

Worse than the install limit, it starts out with Star Force on it. If I understand correctly, however, if you patch it immediately and not play it while that's included, the late patches removed Star Force, so it's not quite so awful.

I thought part of the reason the original X3: Reunion was re-released as a 2.0 version was due to complaints about the use of StarForce 😕.
