The multiplier is 8 for the 2600 and 2800, and 9 for the 3000 and 3100. "333MHz" FSB is just an error from someone who copied the specs of the socket A version.

So, if you get a board that can do ~ 300MHz then you have an overclock to 2.4GHz.

Avalon, svc.com has the Zalman 7000XX replica for like $10 or soemthing crazy like that. Get it, I have read good things about it.

Mwave has the retail box versions of these CPUs for around the same price as Monarch OEM. Question is... will a motherboard need a BIOS flash to be able to POST with these CPUs?

Budman, yes. There were two versions of it that included a 92mm fan. The one you linked to (haven't seen it before clicking on your link) seems to be similar, without a fan. This is actually nice because you can choose which fan you get.

Erg...that's bad. I hope not. Where did you hear this from?
Nice find at Mwave...I looked around, but didn't find any other sites selling. It figures I would miss one. Oh well, I don't mind having a nice Zalman :)
We'll see how it goes.

*Edit*
I don't know...it doesn't look like Monarch copied over the Socket A description. They've got Socket 754 details plastered all over it. It also makes more sense to me that AMD would want to release their budget line on s754 with a 333mhz FSB to further seperate them from AMD's premium A64 line. We'll see.

Haven't gotten mine yet...actually, I never saved my invoice from Monarch. I just realized (since it was the first time I've ordered from them) that they don't send invoices to your email. Oops. Now I can't track my package. Hah.

:)

i went to AMD's site to see what was up with the FSB, but they don't even have the chips listed.

no LDT runs always runs at 200MHZ on every single K8 in order for them to have these even GHZ numbers without half multipliers. It's almost for sure that the multiplier on 2600+ and 2800+ is 8 with 3000+ and 3100+ having a 9, hopefully the rumored 3300+ is a 2.0GHZ part with a 10 multiplier.

I have not seen anything but 1.6GHZ - 2.6GHZ all with full number multipliers.

any reviews yet? These Semprons may be the perfect thing for a silent PC builder on the assumption it's 90nm.

Yes, I imagine it would definitely be a great thing for silent PCs. I'm starting to really have doubts now that it's confirmed to come with an 8x multiplier. I'm going to need 300HTT just to hit 2.4ghz, which is the minimum I'd like to reach. Most of the reviews I've seen place the Epox board that I ordered capable of around 275-300. However, no one bothered to replace the horrible passive cooling on the NF3-250GB chip. I'll be putting an active cooler on there, so maybe I can reach 325HTT, which will satisfy me. This is assuming the chip is a good one, as well.

AFAIK it is an OEM only 2.4GHz part with 12x multiplier and half cache.
When did the athlon 64 3300 come out?

That's a totaly different cpu we are talking about the the new Semprons.

Oh don't worry.. I make these mistakes all the time with AMD bewildering nomenclature and product line. Ex: They got like 5 chips called the 3200+ and more to come.

The first thing I need to do is replace the nvidia chip's heatsink on the Epox board. It has a dinky gold coated, aluminum passive heatsink. That's definitely not going to help my high FSB quest. Reviews I've read put the Epox's HTT capabilities in the 275-300 range, using the passive cooler. I'm hoping I can do 325 with an active, copper cooler on there.

*Edit*
If you're going to get one of these chips, plan to have a DFI NF3 UT board, or this Epox with a good northbridge cooler. Anything else just won't cut it, and you'll be stuck in the land of low FSB's. The 8x multi on this chip is going to make things difficult, but I'm sure I can overcome it.

Only chipset cooler I have is for an i845 board...lol. I wonder if I can get it to fit.

In my book, a good chipset cooler is either a plain passive one with a 80 mm fan strapped to it or an old GeForce256-2-3-4-FX cooler if the pinholes match up!

I have plenty of 80mm fans lying about, but do you have any idea what one would look like on top of this thing? :p
http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=13-123-219&depa=0 + 80mm fan. lol.

Even though this does not list an NF3 chipset as compatible, do you think it might be anyways? It seems like excellent bang for the buck.

any results yet?

I wonder how it will perform with 1/4th the cache of 64s. Sempy 3100+ with 1/2 the cache didnt seem to lag too much behind.
