New SOB client

Hey guys.

I just swung past the seventeen or bust website and noticed they have a new client out

here

You can read about it in their forums here.

essentially they are using the gimps application to do sob searches. rather than create a whole new client or modify the existing one they decided to use an existing application which was already opptimised for these types of searches.

my speed increase over the past client seems to be around 20-25% if my calculations are accurate.

I've always wonder why all of these prime-searching projects didn't just use one client to search primes for their various goals.

How is the GIMPS client, as far as periodic saves? My machine reboots sometimes, and I would hate to lose a lot of work.

You can set the amount of time between saves. the default is 30 minutes.

Can you use SBQueue with the new client? Or does it have its own caching?

you have the ability to cache within the client

set "days of work to queue up" =(default is 5)

just be aware that you can't migrate your test, so let them finish first.

If you haven't received it yet, i got an email about switching over to the new client, so sounds like they want people to start making the switch.

If you haven't noticed in the stats, they have re-adjusted the numbers project-wide

A few hi-lites:
DC-Vault stats may seem out of whack until things settle down with the new scores

cEMs stood for "corrected Exponentiation+Modulus" The j in jEMs is for "jiggered" Cheers, Louie

The old server will be supported for a good long time to come for those who need extra time to upgrade. I'm sure most people will upgrade soon though since the new client is faster. But I understand there are reasons like yours where it will take longer to upgrade. Especially if their boxen are spread out or they have elaborate setups with SBqueue, etc. Cheers, Louie

I can't get the Linux client to work.
(if the Linux client reports an error related to libcurl, try linking libcurl.so.3 to libcurl.so.4)

I checked and only have the libcurl.so.4 so I'm at a total loss as to how to fix this. I have fedora7 installed.

I just installed the new client. I'll have to figure out the best settings over the next few days i guess.
