That would be the slickness, if they were to make that, I think I might just have to sell my MacBook to get it. Of course, ever since Apple went Intel, they have been predicting this.

Vista is just really terrible. I just set up a Vista laptop for my brother-in-law for college and man...what a pain. I managed to get it looking & feeling kinda like XP - less nag dialog boxes, got rid of the extra junk everywhere, did some speedups by removing some graphical features, etc. I'm so glad I have OS X. XP can stay where it belongs...in a VM lol.

Yeah that's the tough thing. I was SUPER excited when the 13" was announced and snagged one when it first came out (ended up having tons of problems with it, too), but it's a pound or two too heavy and a little bit too thick. I would kill for an LED screen and a real graphics card in one of those suckers!

This is what I'm saving up for, regardless as to whether it comes out in 3 weeks or 3 months. Although I've not seen sub-2 pounds listed anywhere.... :D

I can see how no optical drive would allow for it to be smaller, lighter, and have better battery life (more room for battery), but on the other hand, if they don't at least include an external DVD drive, things will get nasty.

i'm sure there would be an external dvd, there has to be some way to restore the OS.

not if they build in a recovery partition. My x60 tablet didn't include a DVD drive, nor even recovery discs. I prefer the lower weight as i rarely need the dvd.

I didnt think a lack of optical drive would be an issue before I got my x41 tablet. But I noticed that I was SOL every time someone wanted a CD from me or vice versa. I recently purchased an external drive, but it kind of defeats the point of portablility when I have to pack an external optical drive, AC power for the drive, and cables on a road trip.

this is why everything just needs to be USB based :)

eh, no thanks. recovery partition doesn't help much if your hdd crashes.

Some insider information I heard secondhand - (i.e. take it with a grain of salt!)

-"mini" laptop
-"real" graphics card, at least better than the GMA950, possibly removable (upgradable)
-2x32gb SSD

Guess we'll find out within a few months :D

64GB of storage makes it close to acceptable. I am right now using 50GB on my MacBook with Leopard on there and all my music, so 64GB should hold it just fine.

Lack of an optical drive is annoying, but I already have an external DVD burner since my machine lacks a DVD burner. And I already have external Hard Drives for home and away storage. Basically, I'm already set for this new MacBook Slim... BRING IT ON!!!!

I dunno, there was that one Apple patent for a bottom-loading optical drive, so you may not be out of luck as far as that goes.

Macbook = college student laptop, no student is gonna want to carry around an external DVD if they release this sans a DVD drive.

I like everything I've heard except the missing DVD.

Yup...

Well then, students can keep using the MacBook. I cannot think of any way for Apple to make a MacBook Slim with SSDs and the thinness and still make it affordable for students... you just can't. 64GB SSD on the XPS1330 is a $950 option, that is most of the cost of the base level MacBook right there.

However, for a person that needs long battery life, ultraportability, power and OS X, then a MacBook Slim would be excellent.
