I never thought this card would be this rare. I bought mine the original day they came out at zipzoomfly. I'm glad I pulled the trigger when I did.:D

I truly was hoping to buy a 7900GT but the freaking prices being over MSRP has got me cooling my toes. Was gonna get a VF900 HSF to go with it. If the X1900GT comes out soon and at $300 and sells for MSRP I'm going to say "F" nVidia and go with ATI, yet again.

i am in the same boat... if the 7900GT was in stock on monday, i would've bought one for sure. but instead, i had to wait, and luckily, newegg had a sapphire x1800xt 512MB for $309 yesterday (back up to $319 now). i think it's a much better value than this crazed 7900GT

It's hot because you can actually find a single brand in stock?

Phs. Just get a X1800XT for $282 on the Egg already.

"F" eVGA for not having any Superclocked 512s anywhere but overpriced mwave for $695.00. I am not paying 100 over MSRP for a freaking video card.

Edit:

ZZF has them in stock but with a limit of 1.

X1900XT yesterday was @ $409 AR.... best deal in years if its still there.
X1800XT can be found for $270-280...... it's plain dumb to get a 7900GT when there are such better alternatives already, and the X1900GT isnt far away either.

why are these overpriced 7900 series selling so well?

ATI's offerings are better and are cheaper!

Nvidia being an American product is far superior to ATI an Canadian product.:sun:

whoever's product is superior is open for debate, but the x1800 and x1900 wins in benchmarks. Unless someone would want sli then it would make more sense.

The X1800 is certainly a very nice card, but for some people like me, they're simply not an option.

The X1800 is annoyingly louder (yes, I've heard both cards in person), uses FAR more power and emits much more heat. But the absolute deal breaker for me is: it has no Linux drivers.

For a Windows-only user who only plays DirectX games it's certainly a fantastic buy, especially when you consider its ability to do HDR + FSAA. But for some people it's not a valid replacement for a 7900GT. Some of us run OpenGL games and apps, and require the card to work on OSen other than Windows.

Please feel free to start an X1800 deals thread.

P.s. looks like many e-tailers have received 7900GT shipments. With some luck I might be able to grab this card for around MSRP soon-ish.

edit: good point re: SLI. A 7900GT is definitely a candidate for a multi-card system in the future, whereas ATI's master card arrangement is clearly infereor and MUCH more costly. Plus it may require a motherboard replacement with an ATI chipset board to function.

Oh yes I can. My free time is somewhat limited, and I choose to spend it playing games rather than modifying computer hardware. If your hobby is spending lots of time and money replacing hardware damaged by running way out of spec, more power to you. I can see overclocking a $50 part to perform like a $100 part, but I'm so not going to hardware mod a $330 component to get an additional 3-4 frames/sec in games I play.

If some component in my system lets out the magic smoke, I can RMA it if it's under warranty. I couldn't do so knowing that I might have been the cause of the hardware failure.

thats true, but even the 7900gtx is outselling the 1900xtx and the 1900xtx is cheaper.

The greater cost in power comsumption actually is not as high as you may be lead to believe. In a years time, the difference between a 7900GT and a X1800XT could be about $30. Worth noting? Sure. Enough to justify a $70-80 premium on a 7900GT (assuming you can find one)? Well...

O.K. but what makes this card so rare? Moreover, what is the big "Hot Deal"? Educate me.

Is it me, but isn't the 24 pixel pipelines of the 7900 GT a lot better than the 16 on the x1800xt? And yes, why is the 7900 GT so rare, and is it actually a good buy for the $319?

Pipelines are only one part of the story. I can do the same and say the X1800XT is way better because it's 625/1500 vs. 450/1320.

The 7900GT that I ordered from the egg (for 319 - which is at MSRP, not above, according to evga's site), is 500/1500... Kinda irritating that Newegg doesn't put in the title that it is a 7900GT CO, but you can see in the picture and the product number.

Anyhoo, how does 24 pipes at 500/1500 compare to the x1800xt?
