New Sharp Aquos 720P LCD hurts eyes???

Ok I'm comming from a regular TV. I just got today a Sharp Aquos 42" 720P LCD TV. The tv seems to be nice. However when watching HD programs for a while I notice my eyes kind of hurt. Is this the adjustment my body has to do or something...

like they said, turn down brightness + contrast to normal levels (the factory settings are juiced)

...and it will happen as you adjust to your new set. I went from 27" fishbowl TV to 42" plasma this time last year, and my eyes burned for a few days 🙂
it wasn't brightness issue either, as I had everything way low for the initial weaning period..

Turn down the contrast. You may need to turn down the brightness as well, but it's high contrast that'll kill your eyes. Use a calibration disc, or see if you have a THX movie in your collection. It'll have a THX optimizer on the disc you can use to help properly set contrast and brightness.

^^^ As above... usually contrast is jacked up beyond belief from the factory. My samsung 4065F sets came with the backlight on 10/10 and the contrast at 100/100 (so max for both). Needless to say, lowering the contrast a bit and putting the back light at about 5/10 is much more reasonable in my home (even with moderate ambient light).

my sharp 32" 720p LCD had a high factory setting for backlight, but not really so much of a high value for brightness and contrast. Those two values are relatively close to what they are right now, and the settings have been calibrated. The backlight was at +16 (-16 through +16 was the range). That was retina burning for an LCD. lol Now I believe its somewhere between -8 and 0 (haven't looked at the settings in forever).
