New setup not even posting - please help

Oh, by the way, the thing powers on. The 6 mobo LED's are lit up. PSU fan turns, and I cannot tell if the CPU fan gets turned on. Hard disk spins, but no beep, nothing on the screen. Monitor power LED blinks.

Removed hard disk, monitor. Just CPU, memory 1 stick, and PSU. Same symptoms.

Try RAM. Take out all sticks and note any difference.
Yep, id do that, take them all out and see if you get an error beep code for having no memory.
If it beeps, your cpu/mobo is ok.
No beeps without any memory installed, reseat the cpu / reset cmos and try again.

If this doesn't work, try reseating VGA, ensure you have power plugged in if your VGA requires it.

Thanks for your help. Clearing CMOS did it! It's running now.

Yes, CPU fan was inoperative until CMOS was cleared. Weird.

By the way, I have an old PSU that has a 4 pin square connector. The motherboard has an 8 pin socket. Am I supplying insufficient power by connecting 4-pin to 8-pin? It's working though.

Also, the CPU heat pipe is not even warm. Is it normal? I'm using an ASUS 4-heatpipe 90mm HSF. No overclocking. No game.
Thanks.

monitor your CPU temp using software temp monitoring, like CoreTemp. there is absolutely no need for you to be sticking your hands in there.

start running prime95 and see if the thing heats up then.

as far as the 45nm cpu's go, it's normal for them to run cool especially when running at stock voltage.
