New setup for my home theater...

Bought two new home theaters pieces yesterday to replace my aging TV cabinet, that wasn't getting used much anymore. Here is my old cabinet

I've never used the CD racks and the bottom section was design by an idiot because it isn't wide enough to fit stereo components/dvd players/ etc. without physically modding the middle support peice (which I did to fit my reciever). Just basically a badly designed peice of crap.

Here is my new setup:

I've gone very back to basics with my concept of a home theater. I had to mod the tv stand to hold my 32" Toshiba because I didn't trust it to hold the 110lbs beast. 🙂 I added the two vertical supports on the sides of it. That made it rock solid.

Anyway, the only thing I've got left is to straighten the cables up in the back. They seemed organized when I was stringing the cables back and forth tonight. 🙂

Whadya think?

Joe

btw: You can't see it, but I have a digital projection screen that is mounted on the ceiling and comes down to make a 72x40 inch projection screen at eye level. Good stuff! 🙂

I think you explained everything but the pc in the new pic.

It was in the old pic too. Look to the upper right of the tv on the side of the cabinet. I use it for surfing the net, watching DivX movies, etc. Works quite nicely. I'm going to be replacing it tomorro with a Dell Dimension 4500 as my current one is only a 1GHz PIII and it doesn't quite have the CPU power to record video at 720x480. Gets a little choppy...

Not bad looking at all. Although I'm more of a fan of having a cabinet with a glass door for my equipment. Basically the way I have my stuff setup currently is my audio/video equipment (except XBox & Playstation) in an oak cabinet with a smoked glass door. Then my TV on a stand with my video game stuff below it.

I tried that... it just got dusty and I'm getting away from the wood look. I guess my style preference is changing.

I'm curious, what is that piece of Motorola equipment on the top of the rack? It doesn't look familiar to me and I wasn't aware that they were into stuff for the home theatre crowd.

Ahhhhh should've known. Really have to get a Dish for myself.

Gonna be switching over to Dish Network soon I hope. I live in Alaska, so we can't use the little 18" dishes and none of the "3 free room with professional installation" work up here. We have to pay for EVERYTHING, the 4 foot disk, each reciever, installation.... All together it's over $600 for just 3 rooms. Not even the PVR unit. Though, this cost may be lowered in the next month or so as the biggest telcom company in Alaska is teaming up with Dish Network and is going ot be offering packages. (crossing my fingers!)

Whatever it is, it must be cheaper than the $85 a month I spend now for digital cable.

Antisocial-Virge, I got em on sale at Officemax of all places. $69.99 each.... just seach for GPA2040 on google for a bunch of places that sell it. You can find the TV stand by searching for GPTV32.

Thanks. No need for the TV stand but I do need a stereo rack.

Yikes that is a pretty hefty monthly bill, hope that telco deal does go through for you. We recently teamed up with Qwest (yes I work for Dish) in my area and they're doing bundle deals as well. For a decent package you're probably looking at $49.96 which is the Top 100 + locals (if available in your area) + additonal receiver fees. I typically recommend the Top 100 as it has what I think to be the best variety at a decent price.
