Hi
I installed seti a week or so ago and today joined seti as a anandtech user. I dont have a clue as to what my computer is doing but the screensaver is interesting.

I look forward to finding an alien and love the challenge of a competition.

I will follow any helpful hints anyone can send to a newbie!

Thanks
Janejane

Hi Jane!

Welcome to the Anandtech Seti Team 🙂 I hope you enjoy your stay here 🙂

Most people here recommend the Command Line client, as opposed to the graphical, screensaver, version. This is because the graphics slow down the actual science bit by anywhere from 25-50%!! So, to do the most work, I recommend uninstalling the screensaver version, and using the CLI version.

This page tells you the instructions on how to set up the CLI, and it's most popular addon, SetiDriver. This will allow you to run the client at it's optimum, and will also give you the ability to "cache" work, in case the servers at Seti in Berkeley go down (which they have done in the past).

If there are any more questions, feel free to ask, and someone will help shortly 🙂

Welcome to the TeAm JaneJane 🙂

Like Confused posted, get rid of the screen saver version and go w/ the CLI version, I recently did so for my current race w/ BobTheWizard and it has drastically improved my WU times, hope this helps 🙂

Welcome JaneJane! Great to see another SETI TeAmmate and nice to see you posting in the DC forum as well. 🙂
