Well scrounged together the last of my spare parts. Had to get a mobo and hard drive but here is the final outcome:
1.4 AMD t-bird
256mb pc2100 ddr
MSI KT3 Ultra v1.0
Maxtor 100GB 5400rpm hdd 🙂
GF2 MX 400 64mb
Intel pro NIC

Plan to crunch till Setispy log is 100 GB 😉

Since this board can OC 1 mhz at a time on the FSB is it better to run Seti a couple days set at 100mhz then bring FSB up to 133mhz? I may overclock the board depending on how the heat is for CPU. It tends to run hot so I a bit concerned about making toasties. Anyone have good luck OC these boards? Any ideas how far the 1.4 t-bird can go to. Never really OC much. The heat sink I had was a Dr. Thermal TI-V77 and I threw some Artic Silver 3 on it as well.

I don't quite get your question ,is yout tbird 1.4 a 100MHz FSB version? ,if so you want to unlock it & run it & the RAM at 133MHz for best results 🙂.
If its the 133MHz FSB version then you just need to up the FSB a step at a time
 
Well see I am not sure which version I got. The AMD website says that the 1.4 t birds came in 200 and 266. I am a tad confused at what I should set it to. I plan to OC the board later on down the road. I suppose where I need to find the info is actually on the chip which is, of course, under the HSF right now 🙂.
 
I have an unlocked 1.4GHz that is still running at 1533MHz (11.5x133) at default voltage on a ASUS A7V133, I haven't tried to O/C any farther as I was happy with that. 🙂

Well I haven't done anything to the CPU to unlock it so I am sure it is locked tight🙂 Doing install right now and it is set to 100 mhz FSB. Maybe after install bump it up to 133 see if it is stable. Incidently for Seti is it completely CPU speed the governs the time per WU or does the FSB weigh in there as well?
 
High FSB is more important than ultimate CPU MHz

BTw you'll never get a 1.4GHz Tbird 100MHz FSB to 133MHz (maybe with sub zero cooling?😛) ,those cpu's top out at about 1500-1600MHz ,to get the best performance out of it you really need to unlock it ,lower the mulitpier & set the FSB to the highest setting you can manage with CAS2 set ,SETI likes low latency too🙂
 
well running at 133mhz FSB seti spy sees the CPU as 1400mhz temps were around 61-62C while CPU was loaded for about 10 minutes. Setting FSB to 100mhz seti spy sees the CPU as 1050mhz temps were around 56C while CPU was loaded for about 10 minutes. At what point do these chips make fire?

Well, i had my Duron @ 880 at 71*C when i got back from work today! :Q The hottest day of the year so far! It was still running, just closed Seti for a while for it to cool down. It still works perfectly 🙂

AMD says the high for the CPUs is about 90*C, so at 60 you should be fine. If it's running stable then it's fine for me 🙂

Bit hot lately isn't it confused? Came back and my 1.333GHz Athlon was at 70 odd degrees :-s So I've had to turn em off lately cuz its been that hot - :-(. Lower seti production - not good. I'll soon be back up to my 11 a day average, or more once I get my dual celery back from my mates when its cooler :-D

Anyway, I wasn't aware that there was even a 100MHz FSB 1.333 let alone a 1.4. As you've shown tho already its a 133FSB chip. So thats the right setting.
 
Well it's later in the day now (just coming up for 9:40) and the Duron has gone up to 67 with Seti running again. It only went to 62 without Seti running, so 5-8*C change from idle to full load is good in my books 🙂

SpiffyGuy, Most of my systems are OC'ed and I use to monitor their temp. After a year of S@H I stopped as I wasn't having any problems and I figured it was one more process that I could remove. Plus, I didn't like version 5 of MB_Monitor.

I have a T-bird 1.2 running at 1.4 GHz on an EpOx board. Once it blew the fan header and the Delta fan stopped! When I noticed it I pulled the power and removed the Alpha HS with a pair of needlenose pliers. It had gotten hot enough to melt the aluminum HS, it dripped down around the copper pad. A few days later I got a 3 to 4 pin power adapter and filed down the HS so that it would fit back on the mobo. I reconnected power and it started crunchin SETI again. It has been working for at least 6 months. So, they can take a lot of heat and are designed to do so.

If I have a system that exhibits a problem that I feel is heat related I simply reduce the FSB a MHz or two and keep crunchin.

In that case your 1.4GHz Tbird is a 266(133)MHz FSB version ,not a 100MHz FSB version🙂

Little update. Been running Seti non stop since I finished install. Temps are about 67c on the CPU using the MSI monitoring software that came with the KT3. Let me just say with 3 machines now crunching Seti non-stop in my room it is VERY hot in there. Planning on rearranging machine placement in the house. Need to get some CAT5 and plan to set these up in the basement to try to give them a cooler home. I was hoping the temps in the 1.4 t bird would drop a few degrees after the Artic Silver3 had a chance to set, atleast on the XP 2200+ temps decreased as it ran, but doesn't look like that may happen. It is running about 5 hours a WU so seems to be doing alright. Probably need to get a better cooler or go to water cooling if I plan to OC the thing. Anyway seems to be working at least.
 
67C is rather hot ! ,have you got any case fans in that rig?

Btw I know what you mean about heat! ,until a few days ago I had 3 running here ,just at a time when it was getting really hot! ,was 32C outside ,nearly at 35C inside!:disgust:
