New Seti Help

I have up to 4 machines I can run seti on here at home.
Do I need a different user ID for each?
I see no default screensaver in my XP Pro screensavers, what should I be using?
Thanks.
Also, can I close the DOS window or is that Seti running?

I have seti driver listed in my taskbar.

More qualified than me to answer, but I will anyway 🙂

You can run them all under the same username

You should use the SETI-Driver client using the more efficient CLI. Instructions Here

If you are using Seti-DRiver you can tell it not to display Transmit, and to hide processing as well.

Those are the instructions I used. This is all new to me and it might take me a couple of tries to be sure I am set up correctly.
Thanks.

Welcome to the team oldsmoboat, those directions dxkj linked to look sufficent, I hope you get up and crunching. Let the fun begin.

Yeah that black MsDos window appears while it is downloading new WU's... after you have finished downloading the number you entered, you shouldnt see that screen anymore. If you do make sure that

Hide Processing is checked
Display Transmit is not checked
Auto Transmit is checked

Alway remember to hit the 'Save Config' button after making any changes to SETI Driver or they won't take effect.

If you're using the CLI there is no screensaver associated with SETI. I think most of us run no screensaver at all. My monitor is set to turn off after i think 20 minutes. Running a screensaver just takes cycles away from DC clients, kinda defeats the purpose, IMO.

Use the Blank screen-saver. 😉

Yup, the driver is awesome! When you hide the command line stuff, it becomes really convenient.

I personally have both the command line and the transmit hidden with the SETI Driver.

I have it on three machines but may be doing something wrong.
On two machines the taskbar icon is blue. On the other it is yellow. What's the difference?

Thanks again for the help.

Blue means crunching normally and needs no transmitting.

Yellow means crunching normally, but need to upload or download a WU.

Read means no crunching and need to download a WU. Usually run out of WU's and can't connect.

And Green means crunching normally and currently uploading results, or downloading WU's.

I have two laptops I can run seti on also.
One is a P3 600 w/ 384 pc100 and Win XP Pro
The other is a P1 233 w/ 64 pc66/100 (not sure) and 98SE
Would it be worth while to run it on either? I am not sure how seti performance it tied to CPU/ram power.

Also, could someone look at the seti link in my sig and tell me if that looks right for a person running seti for one day on a P4 2.5/1gb pc2700 (40 cache), AMD 1.33/512 pc2100 (20 cache) and an AMD 1.0/512 pc100 (20 cache).
Thank you. If I am going to help out I want to be sure I am helping.

THe Pentium 233 would take more than 24 hours per WU - IMHO not worth it but it may be worth it to you.

The P3 600 should do 2+ WU's a day, but YMMV. Heat can be a factor with laptops, so if you run it just be careful.

Oh, and Welcome to the TeAm!
