We just purchased a 64 core xeon with 256gb (will be 512 by the end of the year) server for our one lab--to finish genome assembly.

it will solve all of our remaining sex-based evolutionary mysteries (no joke).

we have named it, appropriately: Jesus.

Yours is Engineering, so....Archimedes?

you should name it "bigjohnson"

so if it ever is in doubt someone will always ask whether the bigjohnson is up or down

this is, honestly, the only reason people name anything. to create lulz at work, but for 5 seconds.

I second this one (Assuming it makes engineers laugh, or think--ironically--about their work)

Titties

Only pictures and videos of titties can be dropped on the server, anything other than that results in immediate termination.

GIBSON, of course.

LOL, just watched this last night.

I run into short-sighted server naming conventions all the time.

Do yourself or the next admin down the line a favor and name it what it actually does. Hey look, "FileServer" I bet I know which one that is and what it does. Or "SQLServer", I bet that's the SQL server.

Walking into a place trying to hunt down which of the Norse gods on the network is the backup server isn't just a hell of a lot of fun.

Don't really need to worry about this as our engineering department will maintain it. We are autonomous of IT, and will always be. Speaking of which just the other day our IT guy was amazed that I could get my email via outlook when I'm not in the office without using the VPN :), and that one of my work laptops wasn't even on the domain.

You win this thread!
Our new server is now Titan.
