I am watching the new TG USA and my God is this show lame. Each of the hosts is completely witless and the whole show is just a patently weak ripoff of the original. Without question the Car Show is the best, er, car show in the US at this point.

Agreed X bazillion

Sad truth is I'd rather watch UK Top Gear and not get the british references and its still a million times better.

They reference and talk about british issues quite a bit and a lot of discussions and reviews of cars we will never see in the states yet its still more relevant than top gear usa.

Hmm OK well future confusion post here and I'll see if I can explain! 🙂

I did not understand the Lambo review, he goes to smiling being happy to say its bad, kinda conflicting.

Sure they can say it does not have that "Lambo" feel but it seemed like they turned complete 180 with that review.

Yeah. Hammond went from being an excited little kid about the looks and the power to the standard comment/review about Lambos that "it feels like a big Audi" pretty abruptly, but whatever. The Aventador is absolutely stunning.

They always do that, the rule for top gear car reviews is if they start off complimenting it, then by the end they will dislike it, and if they start off hating it by the end they will like it.

Also, WTF Was Ben Collins doing on Top Gear again!!?!!! Fucker...

Well yea, but usually they still drive it fast and it just a few points, hammond took the "Lambo feel" like it was everything and started driving slow they played slow music, and kept saying bad things for a good amount of time, like it went from a good review to a bad review.

The point of the Lamborghini is the exact point that they were making the past episode with the Jaguar. While the Jaguar's difference was a bit more pronounced, they were stressing that it seems they went away from the driving characteristics that made Lamborghinis stand out from the rest. Although, the counter-point from Clarkson was pretty much, "but is that a bad thing?"

I do like how the car looks though.

I couldn't agree more...and their biggest complaint is that it drives well? I understand the "needs to have faults to really love" argument...but I don't care...the Aventador plays the super car role perfectly. It is ridiculously good looking and butch. Has a fantastic engine that is finally somewhat refined with a swanky new transmission. LOVE IT.

Best episode of this series, but that's not saying much.

Yeah the Avantador review was lame. I'm baffled at May's response too after he went crazy about the GT-R, as the Avantador seems to match the launch ability. It also hung with the Veyron SS while having about 500 less horsepower. In many ways that's what it is, a bargain Veyron that ditches the stupid compromises (like a quad turbo-ed W16) and costs 1/4 less. Plus, you know they'll put it on PCP and release an SV version as well. Its not like the Avantador is exactly practical either. Its still a low, wide, crazy looking beast, only now you'd actually want to drive the damn thing. I do have one nitpick. I hate the look of the exhaust (you can clearly see the 4 individual ones in the big one).

In general their track reviews are just mediocre now. They've gotten boring and predictable. Sometimes they're just bad (like May and that Aston earlier in the season).

I actually didn't mind the electric car segment, mostly because they didn't spend the whole time spouting off like idiots. I think they went light on them considering the costs. How the hell is that rebadged (why didn't they point that out?) Mitsubishi iMiev costing that much money? Wasn't it supposed to be like sub-$20,000?

Enjoyed the last bit although it too just seemed a bit off.

Did the Aventador take a lot of cues from the Reventon or is it just me? I like it though. Not that it's relevant to me unless I won the lottery, but I wonder if there is a non-nanny mode accessible for classic lambo axe-murdering chaos action?

all the Lambos now have Reventon cues (especially in the nose)

I'm sure there's an off button for the traction control and stability control. If there isn't, then Hammond's point of the craziness being lost makes a lot more sense.

I think it's the 4WD that makes it less fun...

The Murcielago also had 4WD. I think the older V12 lambos were famous for having very heavy clutch pedals and gear shifts. The Aventador has abandoned manual transmissions altogether in favour of the flappy paddles making it easier to drive.
