new Segate 1TB drive

QueBert

Lifer
Put a new 1TB drive in my GF's box, every so often it makes a sound... it's not exactly a clicking, but it is somewhat similar. Before I get worried for possibly no reason, does anyone here have a 1TB Seagate and care to comment?

My Seagate 1TB drive makes a sort of "spinning up" noise, feels almost like a car revving up, not sure if its similar to what you're hearing. The thing I've noticed most often is that it will almost always occur when starting up from power saving mode on the HDD.

It has sometimes occured while the PC is running as well, and the HDD sort of "lags". But it does not occur often and all my data on it is backed up for now, so I am not too concerned.

Should be very quiet; mine runs even quieter than the WD. Likely it's either the readhead(s) is/are a little off alignment that comes too close to the disc surface(s) and caused the drive to click. If in doubt, replace it. 1TB drives may be a bargain on BF if you can get your hands on one:B
