new search engine

at a closer look its not exactly a search engine...

"Wolfram|Alpha's long-term goal is to make all systematic knowledge immediately computable and accessible to everyone. We aim to collect and curate all objective data; implement every known model, method, and algorithm; and make it possible to compute whatever can be computed about anything.
Our goal is to build on the achievements of science and other systematizations of knowledge to provide a single source that can be relied on by everyone for definitive answers to factual queries"

Ah it's about time, I've been waiting for Wolfram Alpha for ages. It seems pretty damn cool so far! It can do some neat stuff.

Edit - ok after playing around with it some more it's actually pretty disappointing.

Holy shit this is pretty impressive though: http://www.wolframalpha.com/in...2Bsinh(11x^(e^2x)))/dx

For fuck's sake make up your god damned mind 😕

I keep changing my mind as I try more things. It's really very cool for queries that work, but unfortunately I'm only getting something like 30% success rate. Hopefully this will improve over time, because this thing has potential.

I like it. Seems pretty good for math and physics queries. Tried to get it do calculus, and show some physical constants and they came up fine.

It even answered the airspeed velocity of an unladen swallow.

I like how it displays some results in graph form. It could be super convenient.

EDIT: The source of information is right below. My bad.

an african swallow, or a european swallow?

It's a neat implementation of data aggregation and natural text parsing, but has a long way to go before it will be useful to me (except for mathematics, which it handles quite well). Of course, I don't expect anything more from a new engine like this. Hopefully it will get better and better to the point where it is able to provide an answer for most questions.

It handled:
(9^9^9^9^9^9^9)^(9^9^9^9^9^9^9)^(9^9^9^9^9^9^9)^(9^9^9^9^9^9^9)^
(9^9^9^9^9^9^9)^(9^9^9^9^9^9^9)^(9^9^9^9^9^9^9)^(9^9^9^9^9^9^9)^
(9^9^9^9^9^9^9)^(9^9^9^9^9^9^9)^(9^9^9^9^9^9^9)^(9^9^9^9^9^9^9)

pretty well.

It's not a search engine as some are saying but I think it is great. There is still a lot more data to put into it but it is very impressive so far.

Yeah, the news was reporting this was the next big competition to Google's search crown. Uhhh. No. It doesn't even seem to be designed to compete with Google. Its sort of just a cross between a rudimentary search engine, calculator, and Wikipedia.

Seems best at doing the calculator things though.
