My 80 Scout II
It's the only picture I had on my computer, I better take some more this weekend after I get her back.
She is getting a custom front bumper welded up and installed
sd33t turbo diesel by chance? Only year it was offered.
It was a turbo diesel when I found it, abandoned in a junk yard.
The owner of the truck owed his former friend who was the owner of the yard some money, and so the junkyard owner took his truck.
The owner of the scout wouldn't sign over the title.
The engine was trashed, the head was off, and I think there was a hole in one of the pistons.
So the scout owner was in no hurry to pay off his debt to get the non-running scout back.
The yard owner couldn't part it out, as he didn't have the title.
It had sat in the yard untouched for 6 years when I found it.
It took me 4 months of negotiation and in the end I paid off the debt owed to the yard owner and the scout owner received a few hundred for the title.
The body and frame on the scout was the best I had ever seen (this was my 3rd scout), I swapped out the drive-train with a 345 that I had in a scout that, well, basically didn't have a body left. This 80 scout II has been a great truck since. Off-road, towing, or just cruising around, there is just something about having a truck that is unique. Strangers walk up to me in parking lots all the time and tell me about the scout that their dad had when they were kids, or about one they had when they were young.
If international produced a truck that was equal to the scout today, I am sure It would cost $40,000 or more. While I think it would be great to have them back in the market, I think I would just stick with the one I have.
