If International releases a new Scout and the first couple of years of production go well, I'll seriously consider getting one.

has anyone tried putting rhino lining on their scout/truck besides on the bed? I'm talking as a replacement for interior carpeting.. I'm wondering if thats the path I should take..

It was a turbo diesel when I found it, abandoned in a junk yard.
The owner of the truck owed his former friend who was the owner of the yard some money, and so the junkyard owner took his truck.
The owner of the scout wouldn't sign over the title.
The engine was trashed, the head was off, and I think there was a hole in one of the pistons.
So the scout owner was in no hurry to pay off his debt to get the non-running scout back.
The yard owner couldn't part it out, as he didn't have the title.

It had sat in the yard untouched for 6 years when I found it.
It took me 4 months of negotiation and in the end I paid off the debt owed to the yard owner and the scout owner received a few hundred for the title.

The body and frame on the scout was the best I had ever seen (this was my 3rd scout), I swapped out the drive-train with a 345 that I had in a scout that, well, basically didn't have a body left. This 80 scout II has been a great truck since. Off-road, towing, or just cruising around, there is just something about having a truck that is unique. Strangers walk up to me in parking lots all the time and tell me about the scout that their dad had when they were kids, or about one they had when they were young.

If international produced a truck that was equal to the scout today, I am sure It would cost $40,000 or more. While I think it would be great to have them back in the market, I think I would just stick with the one I have.

Scouts are awesome at offroading, quite underrated if you ask me.
The last IH I drove was a 24' Ryder truck, it was a very nice machine.
I'm all for the Scout coming back provided one thing: THEY DON'T YUPPIE IT UP!

my only hope is that the price is competitive and isnt going to be something where only the elitists can afford them. from day one this is a utilitarian work truck. carpeting wasnt put in for looks, it was a noise dampener. they spared no confort, as anyone who's driven one stock offroad can probably agree ;). I'm hoping a price tag to compete with the POS 'SUV's (and I use the term utility as loosely as the term can be used) like the nissans, hondas, fords, and worst of all, cadillac.. seriously.. can those even do anything besides be loaded with audio and video and big rims?

SWEET! I WANT A SCOUT! And, if they make them brand new, that would be even better!

Anyone in the Bay Area want to buy my 66 Scout? Its a little beat up but still runs strong. Has a Chevy 350 in it. Price is very negotiable...its been sitting in the driveway for too long. PM me if interested.

My grandparents had a Scout when I was a kid, and I loved that thing. Of the many cars they had during my childhood, it's the only one I remember clearly. I would so get a new one if they make them. Hell, even if they don't, when I get some money I'll probably buy an old one.

my dad's good friend is a master welder, he customized his harley completely.. *his* friend is a retired painter who's done custom work for a lot of these carshows in vancouver and shit.. and he'll paint just about anything for anyone in this closed net circle of friends for the cost of paint + beer. he also smokes some of the best fscking salmon around.

does this mean that anyone can get say an 1979 SSII stock identical to mine? or they're manufacturing thousands of each year? how's that gonna work? I suppose they're all essentially the same scout with different parts.

on a side note, does anyone have any ideas on how to get a baja grill done in a metal, preferably with some shine? if I paint my truck midnight blue I feel its just gonna hide this awesome grill.. it'd be nice to get polished aluminum or something.. any ideas?

side note, yesterday took a roadtrip down island (I'm on vancouver island) got my truck up to 120k/h (and i think thats the *fastest* it's ever been, since my dad babied that thing and I was taught to never exceed 80 (which I never had *rolls eyes*)

anyway we showed up before the malls opened, so here's a pic of us sleeping (the girl and the guy shotgun are sleeping off a hangover, I'm outside takin the pic, and John's got the giggles because the two of us are sleep deprived.

just rattlecan it in gloss black or red, and it'll look good.. I've done a few paint jobs on other friends' vehicles (in shop class I was the token painter because I knew wtf I was doing) so I ended up just spraying basecoat, primer and rattlecanning it because my friends are cheeeeaaaap.. if I was you, I'd do it deep forest green or dark red, buff up the chrome, and paint the top eggshell white, let it dry, lay some lace over it, and then put on a coat of mother of pearl white.. it'll come out awesome, I've done it before.. (since I saw it done on overhaulin'- good show for tips on how to restore a truck in a few days)

"""""Specs now being considered are as follows; 119 inch wheelbase, 8500 GVW. 6 speed tranny, your choice of auto or manual, composite body (IH had a plant in Texas to cut Kevlar for the proposed '83 model Scout that never materialized so I'm hoping that it's Kevlar), 4 speed transfer case and your choice of V8 Powerstroke (which will now be opened up to around 6.5 liter) or their new V6 diesel. I also have an artists conception from International's drawing board but no scanner - sorry guys! I can tell you that the drawings are of a two door vehicle with a grill similar to their larger trucks.

Put the update in your first post. The last post changes. ;)

If you have a camera, you should be able to take a picture of the picture.
